Summary
The Wellness Worker provides culturally safe, trauma-informed support to community members experiencing challenges related to substance use, addictions, and mental wellness. This role focuses on prevention, early intervention, short-term counselling, and connecting individuals and families to appropriate supports.

What you will do
- Provide supportive, client-centered services for individuals and families
- Conduct wellness screenings and help develop support plans
- Offer short-term counselling and refer to external services as needed
- Support clients through treatment planning and aftercare
- Respond to crisis situations with appropriate intervention
- Plan and deliver wellness programs, workshops, and community activities
- Promote healthy lifestyles and substance-free living
- Incorporate Gitxsan culture and teachings into programming
- Work with internal teams and external partners to coordinate care
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and reports
Qualifications: Education and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Addictions Counselling, Indigenous Wellness, or related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in addictions, mental health, or community wellness
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset
- Knowledge of addictions, mental health, and trauma-informed care
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Organized and able to manage caseload and programming
Skill Sets and Competencies
- Knowledge of and previous work experience with First Nations Communities and Indigenous Cultures is a definite asset.
- Is approachable, professional, personable and able to build harmonious working relationships with co-workers and all external stakeholders
· Able to exercise diplomacy, tact and good judgment.
· Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
· Valid criminal record (CPIC) check with Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
