As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at GitLab, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all user-facing services and production systems. You will combine operational expertise with software craftsmanship to maintain the GitLab codebase and operating environments efficiently.
Joining the Tenant Services, Geo team, you will work on the Geo feature, which replicates data from a GitLab instance to a warm-standby for data migrations and disaster recovery purposes. Your role will involve supporting GitLab Dedicated customer migrations and Geo-related escalations while collaborating with various teams.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Execute Dedicated Geo migrations, including planning, validation, execution, and verification.
- Participate in shift and weekend coverage for Dedicated cutovers and respond to incidents impacting GitLab.com availability.
- Enhance the Geo operational surface for Dedicated, including preparation, validation, and escalations.
- Develop automation, tooling, and runbooks to streamline migration processes.
- Manage infrastructure using tools like Ansible, Chef, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, and Kubernetes.
- Create monitoring, alerting, and dashboards to track migration success rates and related metrics.
- Collaborate with core Geo team, Dedicated migrations, and other Infrastructure teams.
- Contribute to readiness reviews, incident reviews, and root cause analyses.
- Document actions, decisions, and reviews to drive automation and best practices.
- Identify and automate repetitive operational tasks to minimize manual work.
