Senior ML/AI Engineer – Healthcare

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Senior ML/AI Engineer to join our team and lead the development of cutting-edge AI solutions for the healthcare sector.

You will play a pivotal role in integrating advanced machine learning (ML) capabilities, particularly natural language processing (NLP), into our existing systems to help transform clinical workflows and improve outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have a blend of technical expertise and healthcare experience, with a passion for developing robust, production-ready solutions.

Mission

Your mission will include implementing essential ML components such as NLP-based extraction, similarity retrieval, comprehensive model evaluation, and designing feedback loops with human-in-the-loop mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain an entity extraction pipeline to convert historical clinical notes into structured, actionable entities.
• Develop retrieval and similar-case matching systems leveraging historical patient data.
• Integrate large language model (LLM) reasoning with grounded knowledge bases, using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques and robust citation frameworks.
• Work with Medical Coding SME to validate training data labels and model outputs.
• Design and implement evaluation harnesses, including accuracy metrics, detailed error taxonomies, and monitoring for model drift.
• Collaborate closely with other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to refine mapping rules and reduce claim rejections through targeted ML solutions.
• Ensure ML training complies with PHIPA.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of hands-on ML engineering experience, including at least 2 years focused on NLP applications.
• Proficiency with LLM integration patterns, embeddings, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows.
• Experience in building evaluation datasets and designing meaningful metrics for model assessment.
• Strong command of Python, ML tooling, and best practices for deploying production-ready ML solutions.

Nice-to-Have

• Familiarity with clinical terminologies and healthcare standards.
• Experience with managed LLM stacks such as Amazon Bedrock or similar platforms.
