JOB DESCRIPTION

We're looking for an experienced React Native developer to lead the V2 redesign of Altar ), a social prayer app with 25M+ app installs across iOS and Android.

This is a major update — not a greenfield build — and we need someone who can move fast with polished Figma designs already in hand.

About the App:

Altar is a faith-based social platform where users share prayer requests, encourage one another, and engage daily in a community built around prayer.

The existing app is live on both app stores. V2 introduces a significant UI/UX overhaul and new features based on user feedback and growth goals.

What You'll Be Doing:

Implementing a full UI/UX redesign from detailed Figma specs (design is complete — no guessing). Working with Firebase backend (Auth, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Storage).

Building and optimizing core features:

prayer feed, group functionality, notifications, user profiles, and social interactions. Publishing updates to both App Store and Google Play. Collaborating async with a product consultant and the founding team via Slack.

Tech Stack:

React Native (Expo or CLI — open to your recommendation), Firebase (Auth, Firestore, FCM, Cloud Functions, Storage), TypeScript preferred, state management (Redux, Zustand, or Context API), App Store and Google Play deployment experience, AI-assisted development tools — Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar.

We expect our developer to actively use AI tooling as a force multiplier, not as a novelty.

Timeline and Commitment:

MVP target is 4–6 weeks. Expected hours are 30–40 hrs/week during the build. This is a sprint, not a marathon — we need someone who can commit focused hours and ship quickly. We expect you to use AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as standard practice to maintain this pace.

A developer who combines deep React Native expertise with AI-augmented workflows is worth more to us than a senior dev who codes everything by hand.

What We're Looking For

1,000+ hours billed on Upwork with strong Job Success Score (90%+). Located in Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, or similar). Fluent English — you'll be communicating directly with stakeholders, not through a PM layer.

Deep, hands-on Firebase experience (not just "listed as a skill" — we want someone who has architected production apps on Firebase).

Proven React Native portfolio with apps live in both stores. Available NOW — not 3 weeks from now. Low number of active contracts preferred. Comfortable working from Figma designs with minimal hand-holding.

Proficient with AI-assisted development workflows — you should already be using tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot in your daily work to write, debug, refactor, and ship faster.

This is not optional.

We're building on an aggressive timeline and expect AI tooling to be a core part of how you work, not something you're "willing to learn.

Bonus Points:

Experience with social/community apps (feeds, real-time updates, notifications). Push notification optimization and deep linking. Familiarity with subscription/in-app purchase flows. Animation and gesture handling (Reanimated, Gesture Handler). Experience using Claude Code specifically for React Native development (component scaffolding, Firebase integration, debugging, test generation).

Can articulate a specific AI-assisted workflow — not just "I use Copilot" but how you structure prompts, manage context, and review AI-generated code for production quality.
