Job Description

Cloud Networking Engineer for SaaS Solution

Habanero Data Protection Services | Hybrid Cloud | DevOps Environment

Location:

Flexible / Remote (US-based preferred)

Type:

Full-time

About the Role

We are building Habanero, a managed data protection service operating in a hybrid cloud environment. We're looking for a Cloud Networking Engineer to own the networking and secure connectivity foundation of the service.

This role focuses on designing, implementing, and troubleshooting cloud and hybrid cloud networking for a production, customer-facing service.

It is ideal for someone who is deeply comfortable with TCP/IP networking, cloud connectivity, and security-focused network design — and who enjoys solving open-ended problems in evolving environments.

This is not a traditional IT admin role and not a pure Dev role. It is a platform operations role that bridges architecture, security, and real-world operations.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Designing and operating cloud networking architectures for a managed service
  • Building secure connectivity between customer environments and cloud services

Configuring and troubleshooting:

o VPNs (site-to-site and client-based)

o Routing, NAT, firewalls, and security groups

o Private endpoints, gateways, and transit-style routing

  • Applying zero trust principles to network design and service exposure
  • Managing service ingress/egress, load balancers (ALB/NLB), and TLS certificates
  • Diagnosing complex connectivity issues across hybrid cloud boundaries
  • Working in a DevOps environment, contributing to automation, documentation, and operational runbooks

________________________________________

Required Skills & Experience

Networking (Core Skill)

  • Strong TCP/IP fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience with VPNs, routing, NAT, and firewall design
  • Ability to reason about packet flow end-to-end

Cloud Networking

  • Experience operating networks in a public cloud

Familiarity with:

o Virtual networks (VPC/VNet concepts)

o Private endpoints and gateways

o Hybrid connectivity (VPNs, private links)

  • Experience with multi-network or overlapping IP environments is a plus

Security & Zero Trust

  • Practical experience designing secure networks with least-privilege access
  • Understanding of HTTPS/TLS and certificate management
  • Ability to design secure systems without unnecessary complexity

Operations & DevOps

  • Experience supporting production systems
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, and operational tooling
  • Comfort working across engineering and support teams

________________________________________

Mindset We're Looking For

  • Comfortable with open-ended problems and evolving requirements
  • Thinks in systems, not just configurations
  • Pragmatic about security, reliability, and operational tradeoffs
  • Takes ownership and follows issues through to resolution
  • Values documentation, clarity, and repeatable solutions

________________________________________

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Experience with managed services or SaaS platforms
  • Exposure to zero trust network architectures
  • Familiarity with IBM Cloud or similar enterprise cloud environments
  • Experience supporting customer-facing infrastructure

________________________________________

Why This Role Matters

  • Networking and secure connectivity are foundational to Habanero's success
  • You'll have real influence on architecture and operations
  • You'll help shape how the service scales securely and reliably
  • This is a high-impact role with room to grow as the platform evolves
