The Frederick National Laboratory is operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Applied/Developmental Research Directorate (ADRD) Clinical Services Program (CSP) Courier Services provides transportation for time-sensitive clinical samples and related data among NCI Frederick laboratories, in support of National Cancer Institutes (NCI) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) clinical trials. The primary duty of Clinical Courier Services is to transfer patient samples from the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda to the NCI Frederick campus. Services are also provided within Frederick National Laboratories for Cancer Research (FNLCR) campus, and deliveries encompass both the Advanced Technology Research Facility (ATRF) and the Wedgewood Repository campus.
CSP Laboratories provide processing and testing support to approximately 150 NIH-sponsored clinical trials, with five program laboratories registered to perform testing regulated under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary responsibility is transporting both clinical and research samples between the NIH-Bethesda campus and the laboratories at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR).
- In addition, specimens may be transported to or from other sites in the Washington DC and Baltimore area as needed to support the work scope of the CSP. Samples include blood, blood products and other clinical material, tissue culture samples and samples from research animals and include samples from subjects known to be infected with HIV or other agents or those known to contain low levels of radioactivity as well as samples from patients with cancer and other diseases.
- This position also requires close daily interaction with laboratory and medical staff.
- Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, transportation of samples and correspondence between FNLCR locations, transporting the vehicle for routine repair and/or service, and maintaining accurate transport records.
- Routinely lift and carry up to 50lbs; sit or walk for extended periods of time, bend and stoop.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the candidate resides. Must have no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months as determined by the Leidos Biomed Use of Government Owned or Leased Vehicles Policy.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50lbs; sit or walk for extended periods of time, bend and stoop.
- Ability to work flexible hours to support organizational needs.
- This position is considered safety sensitive and will be subject to random drug testing per the Leidos Biomedical Research Drug Free Workplace Program.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Emergency first aid and CPR and related emergency procedures; elementary care and maintenance of a motor vehicle.
