Position Overview
Fora is seeking a Manager, Development to lead the implementation and growth of the organization’s fundraising strategy. This role will play a key leadership function within Fora’s small but growing development team, helping to diversify revenue and strengthen partnerships that support the organization’s long-term sustainability.
The Manager, Development will lead grant prospecting and proposal development, corporate and foundation partnership cultivation, donor stewardship, and fundraising pipeline management. The role will also support the continued growth of Fora’s individual giving initiatives and contribute to strengthening revenue generated through the organization’s social enterprises.
Reporting to the Director of External Relations & Engagement, the Manager will collaborate closely with the program and communications teams, senior leadership, and external partners to ensure strong funding pipelines that support Fora’s mission and growth.
The successful candidate will be comfortable engaging with a range of policy and social impact issues, including gender equality, equity, economic inclusion, and the rights of young women and gender-diverse leaders.
This position is well suited to a strategic thinker and relationship builder who brings strong writing skills, fundraising experience, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a mission-driven team.
Responsibilities
Fund Development (60%)
- Lead the implementation and ongoing refinement of Fora’s fundraising strategy
- Contribute to strengthening Fora’s long-term revenue diversification strategy
- Manage grant prospecting, proposal development, and funder reporting
- Develop and manage relationships with foundations, corporate partners, and major donors
- Build and maintain fundraising pipelines and donor tracking systems
- Lead outreach and partnership development with new corporate and foundation prospects
- Oversee the development of Fora’s monthly giving and major donor program
- Implement donor stewardship and engagement strategies across donor audiences
- Support the fundraising components of Fora events and initiatives
- Represent Fora at corporate events, panels, and conferences
- Provide regular fundraising progress updates to Senior Leadership and the Resource Development Committee
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor 1–2 Development Coordinators
- Provide guidance on grant research, donor stewardship, and partnership outreach
- Support the coordination and professional development of development staff
Social Enterprise (25%)
- Support the growth and promotion of Fora’s social enterprises, Elevate by Fora and Fora Academy
- Identify partnership and collaboration opportunities connected to training and capacitybuilding services
- Engage in partnership and revenue discussions related to social enterprise offerings
- Contribute to strengthening earned revenue strategies that support organizational sustainability
Organizational Support (15%)
- Contribute to reports and updates for Fora’s Board of Directors, leadership team, and key stakeholders
- Provide insights to inform organizational strategy and planning
- Support annual planning and strategic planning processes
- Monitor and track program budgets related to development activities
- Perform other duties as required
Work Requirements
- Must be legally able to work in Canada
- Ability to work remotely with a dedicated at-home workspace
- Ability to work flexible hours occasionally (lieu time provided)
Education & Certifications
- Post-secondary degree or certificate in nonprofit management, philanthropy, communications, public policy, business, or a related field is an asset but not required
- CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) designation is an asset
- A combination of lived experience and non-academic credentials is also valued
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 4–6 years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, or partnership management
- Demonstrated success securing grants and managing donor or partner relationships
- Experience developing and managing fundraising pipelines
- Experience working within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
- Experience supervising staff or managing projects
- Strong written communication skills for grant proposals, reports, and donor communications
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Experience using CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and donor platforms
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working with or supporting women and gender-marginalized youth from diverse communities is an asset
- Experience working with a Board of Directors or fundraising committee is an asset
