Job Description
Fluffy Dog Studio is an independent game studio based in Vancouver, Canada. We create story-filled worlds in a creative and inclusive studio environment.
We are seeking a versatile UI Artist to join our team in creating a vibrant, character-driven mobile experience. This role is a unique hybrid of UI Design, 2D Illustration, and Motion Graphics. You will be responsible for the "look and feel" of the interface. From painting playful iconography and character-centric assets to designing the animated "juice" that makes a mobile app feel alive.
This position begins as a 3 to 6 month full-time contract, with an intent to transition into a permanent role for a candidate who can blend high-fidelity art with seamless mobile usability
What You’ll Do
- Mobile-First UI Design: Craft intuitive, high-fidelity HUDs and menus optimized for touch interaction and various mobile screen ratios.
- Character & Asset Illustration: Design and render 2D assets, icons, and illustrative elements that stay true to a specific, established art style.
- Interactive Prototyping: Map out user flows and wireframes in Figma to ensure a playful yet functional user journey.
- Motion & "Juice": Bring the interface to life! Create 2D animations for transitions, button feedback, and reward sequences to enhance the tactile feel of the mobile experience.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Producers to ensure designs are within project scope and meet production deadlines.
- Partner with Developers to ensure visual assets are technically feasible and optimized for mobile performance.
- Collaborate with Game Designers to translate gameplay mechanics into visual systems that are easy for players to navigate.
What You Know/Have
- Portfolio: A showcase of both Graphic Design/UI (typography, layout) and Digital Illustration (character-driven or whimsical rendering).
- Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Figma.
- 2D Animation Skills: Proven ability to animate UI components (experience with Unity Animation, After Effects, or Spine is highly valued).
- Technical Logic: A deep understanding of mobile design patterns, hit areas, and how to structure assets for a clean hand-off.
- Pragmatic Creativity: The ability to balance visual "wow-factor" with technical constraints and project scope.
Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves)
- Unity Implementation: Familiarity with Unity’s UI system (UGUI/UI Toolkit) to help bridge the gap between art and code.
- Passion for Virtual Worlds: Experience or interest in pet-sims, avatar-based games, or character-driven mobile apps.
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada and reside in British Columbia.
