Fitpage is an endurance-focused fitness technology company building digital products for runners and fitness enthusiasts. The platform provides personalized training plans, nutrition guidance, and performance tracking to help users improve cardiovascular health and endurance.

Fitpage also operates India Running, one of the largest marketplaces for running events in India — with 1,700+ races and over 1 million yearly visitors. Across our ecosystem we build products spanning endurance training platforms, event platforms, athlete communities, coaching analytics tools, and mobile & web fitness applications. Our stack is cloud-native and Kubernetes-based, running primarily on AWS.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Principal Architect / Staff Engineer who will define the technical foundation of Fitpage’s multi-product platform. This is a high-ownership, hands-on role — you will design systems, write code, review architecture, and mentor engineers, while shaping the company’s long-term technology vision.

You will own:

• Company-wide architecture strategy
• Infrastructure design and operations
• Platform engineering layer
• Engineering standards and culture

WHAT YOU WILL DO

1. Define Technical Architecture

• Design and evolve the long-term architecture strategy across Fitpage’s product ecosystem
• Design large-scale distributed systems with clear service boundaries
• Define API standards, microservice patterns, and service communication contracts
• Lead architecture decisions across multiple engineering teams

2. Build the Platform Foundation

• Lead development of the internal platform engineering layer enabling teams to build and ship faster
• Design internal service frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation
• Build developer tooling and an observability platform for fast, safe deployments

3. Own Infrastructure Strategy

• Lead architecture of our cloud platform on AWS and Kubernetes (EKS)
• Define networking, service discovery, secrets management, and distributed storage best practices
• Establish standards for operating production systems reliably at scale

4. Drive Reliability & Performance

• Define SLOs and SLIs; design fault-tolerant and autoscaling architectures
• Reduce latency and operational overhead; improve end-to-end system observability

5. Solve Hard Distributed Systems Problems

• High-concurrency systems, event-driven architectures, and data consistency across services
• Distributed job processing, large-scale analytics pipelines, and platform multi-tenancy

6. Establish Engineering Standards

• Drive company-wide standards for system design, API design, and microservices architecture
• Standardise TypeScript backend systems, database schema design, and code quality practices
• Ensure consistency across all engineering teams

7. Mentor Engineers

• Mentor senior engineers and tech leads through architecture reviews and design sessions
• Conduct code reviews and actively shape engineering culture

8. Technology Leadership

• Evaluate new technologies and guide strategic technology choices
• Influence roadmap decisions and represent engineering leadership internally

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• 10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems
• Deep experience designing large-scale distributed systems
• Strong hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS / GCP) and Kubernetes / containers
• Proficiency in backend platforms — Node.js, Java, Go, or Python
• Strong command of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture, event-driven systems, message queues, and caching
• Experience with observability, reliability engineering, and SRE practices
• Experience building high-traffic consumer internet platforms is a strong plus
