• Company Introduction: We are a tech company with a critical infrastructure built on Linux servers, both on-premise and in the cloud. Our systems are vital for our operations, and security and uptime are our top priorities.
• The Challenge: Our Linux server environment needs a comprehensive security review and hardening. We are facing issues with inconsistent configurations, lack of automated patching, and potential vulnerabilities that could compromise our data and services. The current setup is challenging to manage and lacks robust security protocols.
• Objective: The goal is to perform a full audit of our Linux server fleet, implement security best practices, and automate maintenance and security tasks to create a more resilient and secure environment.

Detailed Job Description & Responsibilities

Core Tasks:

• Conduct a security audit of all Linux servers, identifying misconfigurations and vulnerabilities.
• Harden server configurations based on best practices (e.g., CIS Benchmarks).
• Implement and configure automated security patching and updates.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls with a focus on least privilege.
• Implement a centralized monitoring and logging system for security events.
• Document all changes and create a clear guide for ongoing system administration and maintenance.
• Provide expert advice on future security and performance improvements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise:

• Proven expertise in server security hardening and vulnerability management.
• Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python) for automation of administrative tasks.
• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals and firewall configuration (iptables/firewalld).
• Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet is a plus.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., RHCSA, LPIC) are highly desirable.

Soft Skills:

• Meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Excellent communication for technical documentation and team collaboration.
• Proactive problem-solver with a focus on long-term stability and security.
• A detailed report of the security audit findings.
• A documented set of hardened server configurations.

• A final report summarizing the new server security posture and recommendations.
