Qualifications
Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
- Two (2) years of experience in the air conditioning or HVACR trade at the apprentice II or equivalent level.
- Possession of a valid EPA-approved universal refrigerant recovery certification to include types I, II, and III.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
- May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
- Knowledge of the methods and skills used in the repair and preventive maintenance of HVACR or trade-related components, systems, and equipment, to include application-specific and basic computer programs.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national codes and of common hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
- Capability to estimate time and material needs, determine when the repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations.
Preferred
- Completion of an acceptable apprentice-level HVACR training program.

Major Duties/Essential Functions:
- Performs skilled journey-level work to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of domestic and commercial type HVACR equipment and DDC systems.
- Maintains and repairs trade-related refrigeration hot water/steam systems and other related heating equipment.
- Understands and applies knowledge of local, state, and national mechanical and pressure vessel codes.
- Locates causes of failure or malfunction by observation and testing of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic components, and application-specific computer programs.
- Cleans, repairs, replaces, and/or adjusts pneumatic, electric, and motor controls, and related safety devices.
- Repairs or replaces other functional components of the equipment or systems as necessary.
- Carries out designated preventive maintenance and seasonal start-up and shut-down procedures.
- Performs work on-site or in a shop.
- Drives a vehicle to and from locations and keeps the vehicle supplied with tools and materials.
- Performs operator maintenance on the vehicle and keeps it in orderly condition.
- Keeps records and makes reports of work accomplished and materials used.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity to perform all tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel. There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, heavy equipment, moving machinery, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises. This job requires lifting up to 25 lbs., periodically lifting/moving up to 50 lbs., and occasional lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.
