Primary Purpose
A qualified attorney with experience in large construction project transactions, including engineering, procurement and construction agreements (EPC).
Primary Duties
- Under minimal supervision, negotiates and drafts construction-focused agreements, including EPC agreements (traditional and progressive), Guaranteed Maximum Price agreements, and other design-bid-build agreement models, to support complex and significant construction projects in the energy sector, which include construction of transmission and distribution assets; evaluates legal and business risks and liabilities of large infrastructure projects; and advises clients during all phases of project contracting.
Works closely and cooperatively with internal legal colleagues (e.g., regulatory, litigation, labor & employment, and environmental), outside counsel (at times), and other business departments to ensure timely and compliant project completion; coordinates with business and litigation teams to advise on warranty issues, breach claims, and other performance issues; provides guidance and training within this transactional subject area; and interprets and applies internal policies consistent with the law.
- Prepares budgets and oversight of outside counsel management
- Other corporate and commercial transactional projects / duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions. At least 7 to 10 years of relevant professional experience. Requires excellent analytical abilities. Must have the ability to communicate clearly – both orally and in writing, formally and informally; to read and analyze legal and legislative materials and other data; and to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines. Experience in direct counsel to business clients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in construction contracting is strongly preferred, including EPC and GMP models.
- Experience in large financing transactions or energy-focused Mergers and Acquisitions experience could be acceptable, depending on the depth of experience.
- Experience with the electric and/or gas utility business or other regulated company or industry.
- Experience with construction of large public projects.

- Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $167,200.00/Yr. – $229,900.00/Yr.
