Job Description
The ATE Intern will support the Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and Planning team with a combination of administrative, project coordination, and hands-on test floor activities. This role provides exposure to test engineering and application engineering within a semiconductor and electronics testing environment.
The intern will initially support administrative and planning-related duties for ATE workflows, including project tracking, documentation management, test equipment inventory, travelers, compiling reports, and shipping/receiving activities. As training progresses, the intern will have opportunities to work on the test floor, supporting actual testing activities and gaining hands-on exposure to automated test equipment platforms.
This internship is designed to provide end-to-end exposure to the ATE project lifecycle—from project scoping and planning through execution and testing—while working closely with experienced engineers, planners, and test floor personnel.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting ATE administrative and planning workflows (JIVA-based processes)
- Assisting with project management tasks, tracking schedules, and documentation
- Maintaining and organizing test equipment inventory and configuration records
- Compiling reports and supporting quoting and planning activities
- Assisting with shipping/receiving and equipment logistics
- Shadowing ATE engineers and supporting test floor operations
- Learning common ATE platforms and their configurations (e.g., UltraFLEX, ETS, Advantest, Croma)
- Gaining exposure to application engineering and test system stack-ups
Learning & Development Opportunities:
During the initial phase of the internship, the intern will learn ATE platforms, instruments, and system configurations while shadowing engineers and planners. Early responsibilities include supporting documentation, inventory tracking, and helping build an ATE equipment configuration database.
As competency develops, the intern will work more closely with the planning and IT teams to support quoting processes within JIVA and gain deeper insight into the technical requirements of ATE projects. Depending on progress and readiness, the intern will expand responsibilities to include test floor support and application engineering activities.
The intern will gain:
- Understanding of the complete ATE project lifecycle
- Exposure to common ATE platforms and peripherals
- Insight into test engineering and application engineering roles
- Hands-on experience in a semiconductor test environment
- Practical knowledge of how hardware, software, and instrumentation work together to ensure product quality
This internship offers hands-on exposure to test engineering, application engineering, and automated test equipment within a professional lab and production environment. No prior ATE experience is required; training will be provided.
Preferred fields of study include:
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Materials Science and Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Physics
- Or other related engineering or technical degrees
Preferred qualifications and attributes include:
- Strong interest in semiconductor testing, hardware, and electronics
- Willingness to work in both office/planning and hands-on test floor environments
- Ability to understand technical concepts and apply them in real-world settings
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new systems and tools
- Organizational skills and comfort working with technical documentation
- Positive attitude, curiosity, and eagerness to learn
- Dependability and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Position: Intern, ATE / Planning
- Department: ATE
- Location: Santa Clara, CA (ATE Operations)
- Estimated Duration: Flexible (based on program needs and intern availability)
This internship is ideal for students seeking hands-on exposure to automated test equipment, semiconductor testing, and technical project workflows, and for those interested in pursuing long-term careers in test, application, or hardware engineering.
Compensation is aligned with market standards for the region and tailored to individual qualifications and experience.
