Job Description

Job Summary The Plant Manager is responsible for overall facility/production operations and has full accountability for quality, production scheduling, continuous improvement, team leadership, operational excellence, safety, and employee development.

The Plant Manager leads day-to-day operations while driving continuous improvement, employee development, and operational excellence, and ensuring that business objectives and customer commitments are consistently met.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring visibility on the shop floor, the ability to manage through supervisors, and work effectively with the executive management team.

Responsibilities

Production

  • Oversee all aspects of the manufacturing operations, including production planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Ensure that production targets for efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery are consistently met.
  • Identify and track production quality defects that result in rework or scrap and apply appropriate root cause analysis tools to implement corrective action.
  • Balance production demands with equipment and labor availability.
  • Facilitate smooth production flow by removing bottlenecks, ensuring that proper tools/fixtures and training are provided.

Safety and Compliance

  • Establish and maintain a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, environmental, and company standards.
  • Lead/participate in incident investigations and work with the appropriate management teams to implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure that periodic overhead crane, respiratory, and LOTO training is provided according to required intervals.
  • Oversee and direct all required annual facility inspections, including fire, sprinkler system, overhead cranes, forklifts, steam boilers, burglar/fire alarms, backflow preventor, eye wash station, and fire extinguishers.
  • Ensure that on-site visitors adhere to all company safety requirements.

Leadership/Coaching

  • Build a positive, accountable, and performance-oriented culture.
  • Recognize team/personnel weaknesses and develop relevant training opportunities to strengthen core competencies.
  • Manage workforce staffing and initiate changes as necessary to address sustained changes to production demand and required skill sets.

Continuous Improvement

  • Work with shop supervision and Manufacturing Engineering to lead continuous improvement initiatives using proven tools such as Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Work with executive management to develop key operational KPI’s that advance operational efficiency and support higher profitability.
  • Actively promote full employee participation in the Create, Change Request, and Quality Concern programs.
  • Identify and recommend capital investment opportunities that improve efficiency, safety, or quality, reduce costs, or provide new capabilities that may be leveraged to support business growth.

Maintenance and Equipment Reliability

  • Oversee scheduling of preventive maintenance services for equipment and facilities.
  • Develop a comprehensive preventative maintenance program that manages and archives reports and repair history in a central repository.
  • Track production equipment performance to identify potential replacement needs or repairs before breakdowns occur.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Proven experience in production management within a manufacturing environment, with strong knowledge of plant operations and assembly processes.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP or similar platforms; experience with MRP systems is highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of lean manufacturing techniques, process improvement methodologies, and supply chain management principles.
  • Mechanical knowledge combined with expertise in quality control practices to ensure optimal operational performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams effectively while managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to utilize supply chain analytics for strategic planning and operational improvements.

Pay: From $125,000.00 per year
