Scope of Position

We are seeking dedicated and talented individuals for roles ranging from entry-level Technician 1 to expert Technician 5 to perform maintenance, repair, and operational activities on utility-scale renewable energy assets, including wind turbines, Photovoltaic (PV) power systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Candidates will be placed at the level commensurate with their experience, qualifications, and successful completion of internal competency standards.

Required Training: Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend a mandatory 3-4 week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided.

This position is located at our Rancho Seco 1 & 2 sites in Herald, CA.

Salary Range

The full pay range for this role is $22.69 to $47.74 per hour, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is $27.00 to $33.00 per hour. Salary decisions are based on relevant work and leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and geographic location.

Responsibilities

The level of autonomy, technical complexity, and leadership responsibility distinctively separates the three technician roles.

Technician 2 (Experienced)

  • Perform preventative maintenance independently and conduct routine troubleshooting, repairs, and minor upgrades.
  • Participate in the 24‑hour “On Call” rotation.

Technician 3 (Senior)

  • Perform unsupervised routine and corrective maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and lead teams on routine tasks.
  • May train and oversee Techs 1 & 2.

Technician 4 (Expert/Lead)

  • Perform unsupervised advanced corrective and preventative maintenance and lead major repairs; act as a subject matter expert.
  • Train and sign off on the competency of Techs 1‑3; assist with overseeing site crews and contractors in manager absence.

Shared Responsibilities (Applicable to All Levels)

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including LOTO procedures, and lead site safety assessments.
  • Maintain company property and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Accurately complete administrative work: daily maintenance logs, work orders, time tracking, and warranty/inventory documentation.
  • Attend all required safety and technical training.
  • Maintain system integrity and support site budget control by seeking efficiencies.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation for system monitoring and fault identification.

Fiscal Responsibilities

All levels of the organization must be fiscally responsible on the company's behalf.

Qualifications

Tech 2 (Experienced)

  • Experience: 1 to 2 years in renewable energy or similar discipline.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Basic knowledge of schematics, multimeter use, and electrical/mechanical components.
  • Certifications: Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards.
  • Other: Must possess a valid driver's license.

Tech 3 (Senior)

  • Experience: 2+ years renewable energy experience.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Deep competency in generation theory; advanced knowledge of electrical safety, arc flash standards, and NEC; proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Certifications: Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards and have competency in system software and industry standards.
  • Other: Must possess a valid driver's license.

Tech 4 (Expert/Lead)

  • Experience: 2-4 years of renewable energy experience.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Advanced working knowledge of wind/solar industry best practices and the ability to coach, instruct, and train less experienced technicians.
  • Certifications: Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards and have competency in system software and industry standards.
  • Other: Must possess a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Field Work: Work is primarily conducted 100% in the renewable asset field for Techs 2–3; Tech 4 may spend approximately 20% of time in the office.
  • Work at Height: Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights of over 300 feet (91 meters) and work in confined spaces.
  • Conditions: Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain) and in an electrical–mechanical environment with high voltage and stored energy.
  • Lifting: Ability to regularly lift up to 35 pounds and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Safety Restriction (Wind only): Maximum employee weight for fall‑arrest equipment must not exceed 285 lbs.
