About Ecotrust Canada

Ecotrust Canada is an enterprising non-profit working with rural, remote, and Indigenous communities to build an economy that provides for life—one that supports a healthy environment, sustainable energy, food and housing, meaningful livelihoods, and vibrant, inclusive cultures. Our work is partnership-based, entrepreneurial, and relentlessly practical. Learn more at ecotrust.ca.

The Role

This is a hands‑on summer role for someone who loves visual storytelling and wants to learn the behind‑the‑scenes side of how non‑profits raise the funds that make their work possible. You’ll spend your time:

  • Capturing our work in action — photographing and filming our Community Fisheries, Food Systems, and Community Energy projects in Prince Rupert, and producing at least one short video.
  • Helping grow our fundraising — researching potential funders, keeping our donor database current, and helping shape a new philanthropic program (like planned giving or donor‑advised funds).
  • Supporting our communications — contributing to social media, exploring new digital storytelling tools, and collaborating with our Communications Manager and Director of Development.

You don’t need fundraising experience — curiosity and solid research skills are enough. We’ll provide training and mentorship throughout the term.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong research skills and attention to detail
  • Self‑motivated and organized — comfortable working independently
  • Good written and spoken English; strong interpersonal skills
  • Genuine interest in supporting rural, remote, and Indigenous communities and environmental work
  • Background or studies in multimedia, videography, communications, digital marketing, or journalism is helpful but not required
  • Comfort with photo and video editing tools (Adobe Creative Suite or similar) is a bonus.
  • Your own camera/video gear is a bonus, not a must. We have an office camera to support this work.

Logistics

This role is remote or hybrid, but all photo and video assignments must be done on‑site in Prince Rupert.

To meet Canada Summer Jobs requirements, applicants must be 15–30 years old and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise legally entitled to work in Canada.

Equity & Inclusion

Equity, inclusion, and diversity are core to our work. We welcome diverse perspectives and lived experiences, and priority will be given to applicants who live in Prince Rupert and to those who identify as Indigenous, Black or other racialized youth, or 2SLGBTQI+ youth. Decolonization is central to the change we seek — and it’s a responsibility we share across the whole organization, not something any one person should carry alone.
