JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Assistant General Manager – Open Farming (Band M2)
Location: Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India
Business Unit: DS Group – Agribusiness / Open Farming Operations
Role Summary:
Support leadership of open-field farming operations across DS Group’s land parcels—including waste, semi-arid, and fallow lands—to drive strategic growth, agronomic excellence, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning & Business Growth
- Help develop long-term strategy for open field operations across DS Group land parcels: expansion, crop diversification, value addition.
- Monitor regulatory, climatic, input cost, and market demand trends for parcel-specific adaptation.
- Operational & Agronomic Excellence
- Oversee full crop lifecycle across assigned land parcels: soil prep, seed/variety selection, planting, cultivation, pest/disease control, irrigation, harvesting & post-harvest.
- Ensure soil health, efficient water use, crop rotation & fertility management tailored to parcel conditions.
- Strive for high yield, quality produce, and minimal losses (pre- and post-harvest) per parcel.
- Technology, Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Promote adoption of precision agriculture, remote sensing, drones, IoT and data analytics customized for each land parcel.
- Partner with R&D / Plant Science teams to trial and scale crop varieties and cultivation techniques suited to diverse parcel types.
- Financial & Operational Efficiency
- Manage budgets, capex, procurement, maintenance & operational costs per land parcel.
- Track cost of production, revenue, and profitability by crop / land parcel; work with procurement & supply chain for margin optimisation.
- People Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and coordinate teams (agronomists, supervisors, labour, technical) working across multiple land parcels.
- Set & monitor KPIs, conduct performance reviews, build team capability.
- Promote safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement in field teams.
- Sustainability & Compliance
- Ensure each land parcel complies with environmental, safety, labour, land, and regulatory laws.
- Embed sustainable practices: water harvesting / conservation, reduced chemical usage, agroforestry on fallow / waste lands, certifications (GAP, organic etc.).
- Identify & manage risks specific to land parcels (soil quality, climate, pest pressure, input availability).
- Stakeholder & Community Engagement
- Liaise with government bodies, research institutions, vendors, contract/outgrower farmers and local communities around each parcel.
- Represent DS Group in agricultural / agroforestry forums, policy discussions, and foster local community benefits.
- Monitoring, Reporting & Governance
- Develop dashboards / KPIs per parcel: yield/ha, input usage, labour productivity, water usage, post-harvest losses, quality, etc.
- Ensure transparency, strong governance and operational integrity in all parcel operations.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 15-25 years’ experience in large-scale open field farming / agribusiness, managing multiple land parcels (including semi-arid, waste, and fallow lands) with mixed crop portfolios.
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Agronomy / Horticulture / Plant Science; Master’s or higher preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Indian open field agriculture: varied soil types, climatic conditions, regulatory framework, land asset utilisation.
- Proven experience with sustainability practices & certifications.
- Financial & operational strength: budgeting, cost control, P&L monitoring per parcel.
