Job Description

What is the role?

dotCMS is a visual, headless CMS built for compliance-led enterprises that need to manage and scale digital content across brands, regions, and channels.

We are seeking our first dedicated Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our newly forming R&D Enablement Team.

This is not a traditional "Ops" role where you catch code thrown over a wall. Instead, you will work to institute Reliability through Ownership. Your mandate is to unlock speed, agility, and reliability for our Stream Aligned teams by providing them with the platforms, tooling, and mentorship they need to own their services from end-to-end.

You will help us solve key challenges, such as decoupling shared services, removing deployment bottlenecks, and ensuring our architectures are future-proof yet maintainable by the teams that build them.

We're proud to be 100% remote! You may work remotely from any location that is compatible with standard U.S. business hours (unless specified otherwise). Please note this is a full Time

position, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

What is dotCMS?

Founded in 2003, dotCMS is the most secure, trusted, and scalable content management system built for compliance-led industries. Built on leading Java technology, dotCMS is a visual, headless content management system that gives developers the flexibility of a headless infrastructure while equipping marketers with no-code visual content authoring. Whether you're managing 10 or 1,000+ sites, dotCMS brings flexibility, security, and efficiency to enterprise content operations. Some of our notable customers include Telus, BNP Paribas, Worldline, Estes, ARC Health, Royal Bank of Canada, Southern Phone, and Junior Achievement.

Who are we, really?

At “the dot,” you’ll find a diverse team of authentic individuals who share the goal of building the most agile, scalable, and secure content management system, delighting customers, and having a lot of fun doing it. Our mission is to make content work for everyone by simplifying content creation and delivery to drive collaboration & engagement.

We are accountable, collaborative team players who take ownership and deliver excellence. As doers, we are driven by dedication and a strong work ethic. We are passionately dedicated, innovative, curious, and transparent, while remaining humble. Above all, we are customer-obsessed, focused on exceeding expectations with empathy and solutions-oriented thinking.

Working worldwide is in our DNA—whether it’s from the beautiful beaches of South America, the bustling cities of Pakistan, the innovative hubs of the USA and Canada, or the charming landscapes of Europe. We embrace the diversity of new cultures and experiences while valuing “you” time to recharge and thrive. And since we are all distributed, we like to gather around the cool waters of the Caribbean once a year for our regular off-site, where we blow off some steam and re-energize as a group.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Build the "Golden Path": You will own and evolve the build pipelines, dev setups, and development containers that allow our Stream Aligned teams to ship code independently and safely.
  • Institute Observability (O11y): You will own the strategy and tooling for Alerting, Monitoring, and Tracing, empowering developers to see inside their own applications.
  • Drive Reliability via SLOs: You will help Stream Aligned teams define and implement Service Level Objectives (SLOs) to back their code pipelines and observability tools.
  • Enable, Don't Gatekeep: You will act as a consultant and mentor ("on loan" to teams when necessary) to help them tackle complex infrastructure challenges (e.g., helping a team execute a Clickhouse upgrade or configure Active-Active setups), while ensuring final decision-making and ownership remains with the Stream Aligned team.
  • Future-Proofing: You will help explore and implement new capabilities, including our AI toolchain adoption and modernization efforts.
  • Incident Management: Participate in an on-call rotation with a focus on blameless post-mortems and systematically removing the root causes of fatigue.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Autonomy: Stream Aligned teams can deploy and maintain workloads unique to their domain without blocking on external teams.
  • Reliability: Teams have SLO-backed, reliable code pipelines and observability tools to build with.
  • Growth: You are mentoring engineers across the organization, helping them grow their technical knowledge of first principles without becoming a bottleneck yourself.
  • Ownership: Shared services have clear ownership; when things break, we know who fixes it, and when we need new capabilities, there is a clear path to backlog and prioritize them.

Why we get excited about you:

  • +5 years of total experience with at least 3+ years of experience in one of the following roles: SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineering roles.
  • Previous experience in Engin
