\nAssistant professorship in West African mobility law at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen\nAssistant professorship in\nWest African mobility law at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen\nThe Faculty of Law invites applications for an assistant professorship in West African mobility law starting on 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The assistant professorship is a fixed-term position for 1 year and 4 months.\n

Job Responsibilities The assistant professorship is situated at the Danish National Research Foundation’s Center of Excellence for Global Mobility Law, MOBILE. We seek a strong candidate with research interest and/or experience in the interplay between law and politics in the adoption, implementation and enforcement of global mobility law, with a particular focus on West Africa and ECOWAS.

\n

The position is closely connected to the part of MOBILE’s research agenda that analyses regional mobility systems and their interactions with other legal regimes. Applicants are expected to conduct empirical socio-legal research on the routine legal and administrative reception of ECOWAS free movement regulation and other mobility norms, including how national courts and institutions interpret and apply international and regional legal frameworks in practice.

Experience conducting fieldwork, interviews and/or accessing data in the region is desirable. The candidate will moreover be expected to work closely with MOBILE’s free movement team covering other regions (notably Europe and South America) and to engage in cross-regional research exploring variations, shifts and resonance across different empirical contexts.

\n

The main responsibilities are research and research-based teaching, as well as knowledge sharing with the rest of society. The successful candidate must complete a mandatory teacher-training course designed especially for assistant professors. The assistant professor must be able to contribute to both the faculty’s scholarly activities, including examinations, and to perform administrative tasks.

\n

Since the work will include teaching and research (including administration and communication), applicants must document competencies in these areas.

\n

The faculty emphasizes presence in the daily research and teaching environment. Applicants who do not reside in Denmark must consider how they want to ensure that they are an active and participating part of the research and teaching workplace regularly.

Qualification Requirements\nEmployment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level.

\n

Applicants for the assistant professorship are expected to be able to document their ability to contribute with research within one or more of the research areas of the faculty's research environments, including showing how the research can benefit the students on one or more of the faculty's educations.

\n

Applicants are expected to either be able to teach in Danish at the time of the application, or to have the proficiency in Danish that will make it probable that the applicant will be able to teach in Danish within 3-6 years. The faculty actively supports that those employees are enabled to acquire these abilities.
