Position Summary

This role performs highly advanced (senior-level) endpoint systems administration and technical work. Work involves managing and securing enterprise endpoint infrastructure; administering identity and access management systems; leading endpoint technology initiatives; and designing, implementing, and maintaining standardized, secure endpoint computing environments. Works under minimal supervision of the IT Operations Manager with extensive latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Operates as an IT subject matter expert for endpoint management and identity services, providing technical leadership and consulting across the organization to ensure endpoint strategy, security controls, and access management practices align with business objectives and enterprise standards. Requires a high functional understanding of workstation and mobile operating systems, enterprise endpoint management platforms, identity frameworks, security monitoring tools, and cloud-based management environments.

  • Manages, configures, and secures Windows endpoints and mobile phones using Microsoft Intune and Apple Business Manager, including deploying, updating, and removing software, enforcing configuration and compliance policies, and maintaining standardized endpoint builds.
  • Administers and maintains Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and other IAM components (TDIS, Cisco Duo, NPS) in accordance with industry standards and best practices, including device join, conditional access, role-based access control, and identity lifecycle management, applying senior-level judgment to ensure secure and reliable access.
  • Performs endpoint security monitoring, patching, and vulnerability remediation using Tanium, taking direction and guidance from the Information Security Office (ISO) and the Help Desk Lead to support organizational security policies and incident response efforts.
  • Serves as a Tier 3 escalation point for junior help desk agents, providing advanced troubleshooting, guidance, and mentorship for complex endpoint-related issues.
  • Provides backup support to a designated Senior Systems Administrator, assisting with Azure-based systems and Windows Server virtual machines, including endpoint-related infrastructure tasks, maintenance activities, projects, and incident response as required.
  • Partners with the Asset Manager to ensure accurate Software Asset Management (SAM) data in ServiceNow, with a focus on laptops and endpoint devices, supporting asset lifecycle tracking and data integrity.
  • Develops, documents, and continuously improves endpoint management standards, deployment processes, and automation to enhance security, reliability, and user experience.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in information technology security, computer information systems, computer science, management information systems, or a related field.
  • Additional job-related experience may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis (High School diploma required).

Experience and Training Required

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in systems administration, troubleshooting, and technical support of enterprise computing environments, including Windows workstations and managed mobile devices.
  • Minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of experience administering identity and access management systems, such as Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Group Policy, and multi-factor authentication frameworks.
  • Minimum of (4) to five (5) years of experience managing enterprise endpoint management, monitoring, and security tools, such as Microsoft Intune, SCCM, SCOM, Tanium, or other comparable platforms.
  • Experience supporting enterprise cloud-based environments, including Microsoft 365 services and Azure-integrated endpoint and identity solutions.
  • Working knowledge of IT service management platforms, such as ServiceNow, for tracking incidents and requests.

Experience and Training Preferred

  • Experience providing Tier 3 escalation support, advanced troubleshooting, and technical guidance to junior IT staff.
  • Broad systems administration and design experience, including server, network, and endpoint infrastructure, with an understanding of enterprise integration and architecture.
  • Experience with cloud virtualization platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience in Texas State Agencies, local municipalities, or within Texas Shared Technology Services (DIR) programs.
  • Experience in scripting, automation, or process improvement using tools such as Windows PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with enterprise endpoint security frameworks, monitoring solutions, and software asset management practices.

Certifications & Licenses Preferred

  • Certification in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of systems administration; computer hardware and software configuration and troubleshooting; operating systems and applications; computer programming and architecture of scripting languages; and basic Internet security administration
  • Knowledge of current hardware and software architectures, network protocols, and security best practices.
  • Strong working knowledge with Microsoft Access Identity Management including Azure AD, ADFS, and SSO
  • Proven skills in analyzing, troubleshooting, and providing solutions for technical issues demonstrating strong problem-solving and technical skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with proven experience in organizing, planning, scheduling, and being able to execute high profile projects under minimal direction.
  • Solid track record in prioritizing, organizing, executing, and completing tasks when under pressure with the flexibility to handle changing work priorities and procedures in an evolving environment.
