Job Summary
Responsible for the proper operation of the facility while on shift. Operates, maintains, and repairs power plant equipment including but not limited to gas turbines, chillers, cooling towers under normal & emergency situations to provide electrical energy.
Position also includes performing preventive maintenance as needed, performing chemical analytical tests, operating plant equipment, maintaining data logs, and performing lockout/tagout procedures on plant equipment.
Position also requires the ability to cover shifts during times of PTO, Callouts or other as requested by Operations.
Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate power plant equipment under normal & emergency situations. Perform all duties related to the monitoring, maintenance, and operation of plant auxiliary equipment, including periodic tours of the facility; opening and closing of valves; starting/stopping of pumps and compressors; and operating electrical breakers in Motor Control Centers & Substations.
Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance. Maintenance includes inspecting, disassembling, repairing and reassembling plant equipment during normal operations and outages.
Perform chemical analytical tests on various process flows. Monitor process flows, chemical balance and temperatures and maintain them in the desired range. Take corrective action as required when these tests are out of parameter. Maintain water chemistry logs.
Perform Lockout/Tagout procedures as required, including valve manipulation and/or electrical breaker operation. Receive deliveries of hazardous and nonhazardous bulk chemicals. Perform housekeeping duties in areas assigned.
Decision-Making Authority:
Submit requisitions for purchase of new parts, tools, and safety equipment.
Provide input and recommendations to improve reliability, efficiency and safety.
Take corrective action as required when test results are out of their normal operating parameters.
Monitor plant visitors/contractors not normally assigned to the site to ensure compliance with safety protocols. Issue applicable work permits as required.
Knowledge & Skills:
Proficiency in gas turbine power plant operations including all related auxiliary equipment.
Knowledge of applicable environmental, regulatory and market rules & regulations (NERC)
Ability to read and interpret drawings, P&ID’s, logic diagrams, and equipment O&M manuals.
Ability to interact with customers in a professional manner that reflects positively on the company.
Effective Verbal and Written communication skills.
Computer skills and competency to utilize MS Office applications - Outlook (e-mail), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Company specific software or web-based packages, such as eMaint maintenance management system, water chemistry database, etc.
Ability and knowledge necessary to operate equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift and boom lift.
Able to act as a safety watch (i.e. - fire watch, confined space attendant, etc). Know the location of and be able to use all safety equipment.
Valid driver’s license & reliable transportation.
Working Conditions:
Work is in the powerhouse, associated buildings and/or outdoors. Able to work in extreme temperatures and situations, including ability to work at heights.
Use of PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment) as required, which may include safety glasses, hard hat, protective footwear, ear plugs, safety harness, respirator, etc.
Able to work rotating shifts and/or flex schedules, with potential overtime.
Ability to work independently and with others throughout the organization (including coworkers, supervisors, peers in other units and senior management) to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.
Ability to work under stress – to react to crises where immediate action is required to correct or curtail potentially damaging or hazardous situations.
Education
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent. Posses one of the following listed below.
- Two years of vocational training (desired) in mechanical and/or electrical trades, including instruction in the maintenance and repair of industrial equipment.
- Two years of related military or power/industrial plant experience preferred.
- Previous power plant experience with a Stationary engineers license from City of Wilmington DE or State of Maryland a plus.
