As a software engineer in the Database Engine Org, you will join as a key member to contribute to Storage optimization products like Liquid Clustering and Predictive Optimization. In addition, you will have opportunities to design and implement in many areas that leapfrog existing systems:

  • Query compilation and optimization

  • Resource Management
  • Transaction coordination
  • Efficient storage structures (encoding, indexes)
  • Automatic physical data optimization

You will be involved in the entire development cycle and exemplify all core Databricks values (own-it, data decide, teamwork, customer-obsessed).

The responsibilities you will have:

  • Drive requirements clarity and design decisions for ambiguous problems
  • Produce technical design documents and project plans
  • Develop new features
  • Mentor more junior engineers
  • Test and rollout to production, monitoring.

What we look for:

  • PhD in databases or systems
  • A passion for database systems, storage systems, distributed systems, language design, and/or performance optimization
