Job Description
Title: Power Plant Operator (Cogen/CHP) - O&M
Location: San Diego, CA (92123)
Hourly Pay: $37 -$48
We are seeking an experienced Power Plant Operator to support the operations and maintenance of a cogeneration (combined heat & power) facility in San Diego. This role is critical to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance while supporting a complex system of gas turbine generation, steam production, and chilling systems.
You will work both independently and alongside plant leadership to monitor equipment, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement across plant operations.
What You Will Be Doing
- Operate, monitor, and maintain plant equipment including gas turbines, heat recovery boilers, auxiliary boilers, chillers, and balance of plant systems
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal performance and uptime
- Maintain operating logs, trends, and reports for plant performance tracking
- Identify and respond to safety hazards, ensuring compliance with all site and regulatory requirements
- Conduct safety briefings, orientations, and actively contribute to site safety initiatives
- Troubleshoot operational issues and support root cause analysis (RCA) for plant events
- Support project initiatives, SOP development, and process improvements
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors on maintenance and overhaul activities
- Monitor plant performance metrics and recommend improvements to efficiency and cost effectiveness
- Use CMMS systems to track work orders, maintenance, and inventory
What You Will Need For This Job
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5+ years of hands-on power plant or industrial O&M experience
- Strong understanding of Gas turbine systems, steam and boiler operations, mechanical and absorption chillers, PLC/DCS controls (Rockwell preferred), electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and blueprints
- Experience with CMMS and maintenance tracking systems
- Strong communication and troubleshooting skills
