We are excited to offer our Development Training Program for Agronomists, which provides unique opportunities for individuals to learn and grow in a regionally focused environment. Participating Agronomists will learn from experienced professionals on the agronomy team, aiming for seamless integration into an operational site as they progress. These roles directly contribute to the success of CSS Farms through hands-on agronomic operations on commercial and seed farms that focus on growing potatoes and rotational crops. Each participant will be paired with a senior mentor who will guide them through their educational development and monitor their progress.
Our operational sites include: Pasco, WA; Dalhart, TX; Boardman, OR; Bakersfield/Lodi, CA; Winnemucca, NV; Cody, NE; Columbus, NE; North Platte, NE; Holbrook, ID; and Bliss/Lyndonville, NY.
Essential Functions and Experiences include:
- Agronomy planning and developing crop management strategies
- Soil sampling and assisting in pest and fertility recommendations
- Providing in-season agronomy execution through regular field scouting and hands-on work
- Monitoring crops for pests and diseases
- Overseeing soil moisture levels and managing irrigation schedules
- Sampling plant tissue and soil for fertility management throughout the growing season
- Assisting in the development of fertility management based on analysis
- Utilizing agronomy IT programs for data entry and monitoring
- Supervising Agronomy Interns, Technicians, and seasonal employees
- Supporting fertilizer and chemical management and applications
- Facilitating harvest preparation and activities
- Contributing to research and development initiatives
This program provides experience in advanced agronomy techniques, including but not limited to:
- Irrigation and water application trials
- Drone mapping technology
- Agronomy software like Canopeo, iCrop Track, Landdb (CropWise), and Tableau
Physical Demands include: Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, driving across farms and facilities, and lifting objects (including potato samples) weighing up to 40-50 lbs regularly.
Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy or a closely related field; ability to obtain a private applicators license for chemigation/fumigation; valid driver's license with insurance verification; proficiency with computer systems; strong organizational skills with a focus on accurate sampling and reporting; familiarity with irrigated crop production; experience with farm equipment is beneficial; bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
