Role Overview
The Server is responsible for delivering excellent customer service by taking orders, serving food and beverages, and ensuring a pleasant dining experience. They act as a key liaison between the kitchen and residents or guests, ensuring all needs are met with professionalism and care. In this role, fostering a sense of connection and personalizing each dining experience helps create a warm, inviting atmosphere that supports residents’ overall well-being.
Key Accountabilities
- Greet residents or guests warmly and take their food and beverage orders.
- Understand menu item composition and how it may impact resident dietary restrictions.
- Provide recommendations on menu items and accommodate dietary restrictions.
- Relay orders accurately to the kitchen staff and articulate
- Deliver food and drinks promptly and ensure accuracy.
- Preparing and providing appropriate texture modified meals and dietary requirements
- Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment daily
- Refill beverages, clear plates, and attend to guests’ needs during their meals.
- Keep tables and dining spaces clean, organized, and set for service.
- Clear and reset tables efficiently after each meal.
- Where appropriate, invite residents to participate in setting up or clearing their tables, helping to foster a sense of involvement and independence.
- Build a positive rapport with residents by offering attentive service that recognizes their individuality and preferences.
- Build positive relationships with residents or guests by providing excellent service.
- Address concerns or special requests in a professional and courteous manner.
- Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service.
- Assist with plating, food preparation, and restocking as needed.
- Follow all food handling, hygiene, and safety regulations.
- Maintaining environmental public health standards and provincial standards for regulatory bodies
- Participating in community committees and working groups to support community initiatives
- Contribute to an atmosphere where residents feel heard and valued, enhancing their overall dining experience.
- Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
Required Education & Documentation
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not mandatory).
- Food Safety Handling Certificate (e.g., ServSafe or Food Safe).
Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail for accurate order-taking and service.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly demeanor.
- Basic math skills for handling checks and payments if required.
Additional Preferred Education and Skills Asset
- Previous experience in serving or hospitality is an asset.
- WHMIS certification for handling cleaning chemicals.
- CPR or First Aid certification (preferred but not mandatory).
