Job Description
Local electrical contractor seeks skilled and motivated Low-Voltage & Telecommunications Infrastructure Technician to join our field operations team. This position focuses entirely on new construction projects (commercial, institutional, and large-scale residential).
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working in dynamic construction environments, executing the rough-in, routing, termination, and testing of structured cabling systems, safety systems, and network infrastructure. You will work closely with the Project Manager and field crew to ensure all installations meet strict NEC, BICSI, and local building codes while adhering to aggressive construction timelines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pathway Construction & Cable Installation
- Read and interpret blueprints, architectural schematics, T-drawing sets, and wiring diagrams.
- Build out backbone pathways, including installing J-hooks, cable trays, bridal rings, and routing EMT/sleeve penetrations.
- Pull, dress, and route structured cabling (Cat6, Cat6A, Coax, and multi-pair copper) from MDF/IDF closets to workstation outlets according to specifications.
- Pull and secure fiber optic cabling backbones without exceeding maximum bend radii or tension limits.
2. MDF / IDF Room Build-Outs & Termination
- Dress and terminate Cat6/6A cables on patch panels, 110 blocks, and RJ-45 jacks cleanly and uniformly.
- Assist in assembling, grounding, and mounting equipment racks, cabinets, and wall enclosures in telecom rooms.
- Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber optic cables, terminating with LC/SC connectors.
3. Integrated Systems Installation
- Rough-in and wire low-voltage components for integrated building systems, including Access Control (card readers, door strikes), CCTV (IP cameras), Intercoms, and Audio-Visual networks.
- Work collaboratively with electrical and fire alarm crews to run dedicated signaling and control pathways where required.
4. Testing, Certification, & Compliance
- Use advanced testing equipment (e.g., Fluke DSX testers) to certify copper and fiber installations; troubleshoot and resolve continuity, shorts, or cross-talk issues.
- Ensure all cable drops are properly labeled according to specified TIA/EIA-606 standards.
- Maintain strict adherence to OSHA safety regulations, utilizing appropriate PPE on active construction sites.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $28.00 per hour
