While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

Coinbase is rebuilding core financial primitives—trading, payments, banking, lending—on blockchain, as well as developing new crypto products. Coinbase’s Core Financial Platform provides reusable financial capabilities to enable rapid product development while providing scalability, reliability, and financial integrity.

Transaction Intelligence owns multiple critical Coinbase systems responsible for customer accounts, transactions, and the calculation of gains/losses, including tax computations. To do this, the team owns real-time and offline systems, operating at the scale, speed, and 24x7 nature of crypto transactions. Due to the criticality of our outputs, our systems are involved in the launch of every trading product at Coinbase, giving us a uniquely broad view of crypto products.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

Build scalable systems and components, making the right tradeoffs to account for stability and long-term maintainability
Design, write, test, and release product-facing features with stringent correctness and scalability requirements
Collaborate with our frontend and data teams to fine tune our REST APIs supporting millions of customers
Mentor junior developers on the team and lead project of large complexity

What we look for in you (ie, job requirements):

5+ years of software development experience with experience writing performant, large scale distributed systems
Familiarity with writing highly concurrent systems and good intuition for REST API design
Proven experience working on large projects with long-term impact on a single system or team
Strong technical grasp with excellent judgment on task prioritizations
Ability to solve complex engineering problems that deliver results aligned with team objectives
Ability to mentor junior developers and lead the team technically on new initiatives and system improvements

Nice to haves:

You have gone through a rapid growth in your company (from startup to mid-size)
Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks
You have experience with Blockchain technology (such as Bitcoin, Ethereum etc)
You have experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices
You’ve worked with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB or DynamoDB
You’ve built financial, high reliability or security systems
Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services
