We are seeking a Lead Machine Learning Engineer for Platform Development to become a key member of our Machine Learning Platform team. This team focuses on constructing vital components for ML feature engineering, model training, and serving at Coinbase. Your contributions will help combat fraud, personalize user experiences, and analyze blockchain data. You will apply your engineering skills to build scalable ML solutions, encompassing stream processing, distributed training, and high-availability online services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Understand the needs of our Machine Learning Engineers, identifying current capabilities and areas for improvement.
• Mentor junior engineers, fostering their skills while guiding the creation of high-quality software.
• Enhance engineering standards to assure high availability and low latency for ML inference infrastructure, including predictive models and large language models (LLMs).
• Optimize low-latency streaming pipelines, ensuring our ML models have access to the freshest and highest-quality data.
• Encourage best practices in developing high-performance distributed training jobs capable of processing large datasets.
• Develop tools to monitor data quality entering our models and identify performance degradations that might affect model outputs.

What We Seek:

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer.
• Strong grasp of distributed systems.
• Ability to lead by example with high-quality code and clear communication skills.
• Strong design philosophy and skill in clarifying complex technical requirements.
• Customer-focused mindset, treating other engineers as clients and ensuring a seamless experience.
• Mastery of foundational principles, allowing seamless transitions across various technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in building machine learning models and working with ML systems.
• Experience on a platform team developing developer tools.
• Familiarity with technologies such as Python, Golang, Ray, Tecton, Spark, Airflow, Databricks, Snowflake, and DynamoDB.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position ranges from $186,065 to $225,000. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity options, and comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
