Senior Structural Engineer

Overview

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with ten to fifteen years of experience for our DC Metro office. The successful individual will work closely with our business development team and other discipline leaders in developing technical proposals and will take a proactive role in marketing/business development. This role provides the opportunity to help build and mentor a dedicated team of engineering professionals within a collaborative multidiscipline office. This candidate will be working directly with clients providing consulting services.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of steel, concrete, and masonry commercial/institutional, federal and industrial buildings, both in new and existing construction, utility infrastructure, roadways, erosion control measures, and coordinating multifaceted projects. We are seeking innovative, results-oriented individuals who value high standards of performance and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial & industrial projects.
• Design steel, concrete, and masonry commercial/institutional, federal and industrial buildings, both in new and existing construction.
• Design experience with light gauge steel and timber is a plus.
• Interpret technical drawings with a strong ability to lead design team efforts.
• Manage project team for budget and schedule control.
• Develop fee and qualification-based proposals.
• Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; understanding of database concepts and marketing databases and proposal resources files is preferred.
• Conduct marketing/business development activities.
• Contribute to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.
• Able to travel as needed.
• Collaborate with other Coffman offices to complete projects and tasks.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

• B.S. degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE).
• 10 to 15 years of structural engineering experience.
• Experience with computer software and analysis systems (RISA, AutoCAD, Revit, RamSS, Etabs, Enercalc, etc.).
• Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and time management skills.
• Project Management experience and/or certifications.
• Desire to lead inter-disciplinary projects and project teams.
• Local AHJ experience and relationships is a plus.
• Active local industry involvement is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

• Approximate Base Salary - 100K-150K; salary determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.
• Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate.
• Competitive end-of-year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance.
