Role: Server Administrator / SME

1. Role Summary

The Server Administrator/SME will be responsible for managing large-scale Windows Server environments, VMware virtualization platforms, and Azure cloud infrastructure. The role involves endtoend server operations, cloud migration activities, automation, scripting, performance optimization, and supporting highavailability enterprise workloads. The individual will closely collaborate with cloud architects, internal technical teams, and enterprise customers to deliver stable, secure, and scalable infrastructure solutions.

2. Key Responsibilities

Windows Infrastructure Management

Manage, configure, and troubleshoot Windows Server platforms including AD, DNS, DHCP, IIS, Group Policies, clustering, and virtualization.

Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of Windows-based systems.

Active Directory & Identity Services

Administer and maintain Active Directory infrastructure, including user/group lifecycle, OU design, GPOs, domain controller management, and replication.

Perform AD health checks, backup/recovery, and security hardening.

Azure Cloud Services & Migration

Support Azure-based IaaS and PaaS workloads including VMs, storage, VNETs, and backup/recovery.

Perform migration of onpremises workloads to Azure using Azure Migrate, ASR, ARM templates.

Work with Cloud Architects to implement cloud solutions and optimize performance.

Assist in cloud assessments using MAP tools and Azure Site Recovery Planner.

Automation & Scripting

Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine tasks.

Implement InfrastructureasCode (IaC) practices using ARM templates and automation pipelines.

VMware Virtualization Management

Administer VMware ESXi, vCenter, VM provisioning, performance tuning, HA/DRS, snapshot management, and P2V/V2V migrations.

Troubleshoot ESXi server issues using GUI and command line.

Manage VM backup and recovery processes.

Monitoring, Security & Compliance

Monitor infrastructure health using enterprise monitoring tools.

Ensure OS patching, compliance, and system hardening.

Support L2/L3 incident, problem, and change management.

Customer Interaction & Collaboration

Work closely with internal teams and cloud architects to deliver robust technical operations.

Provide documentation, technical guidance, and timely updates to customers.

Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach in all engagements.

3. Essential Skills (MustHave)

Windows & Infrastructure

Strong experience with Windows Server (2008 to latest), AD, DNS, IIS, GPOs, clustering, virtualization.

Azure Cloud

Hands-on experience with Azure IaaS/PaaS, high-availability architectures, storage, backup, recovery.

Experience migrating enterprise workloads to Azure using ASR, Azure Migrate.

Practical experience with ARM templates and cloud automation.

Scripting & Automation

Strong PowerShell scripting skills.

Experience implementing automated deployments and IaC.

VMware Virtualization

Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi, vCenter, VMotion, P2V/V2V, HA/DRS, performance tuning.

Experience troubleshooting ESXi environments and managing VM resources.

General Cloud & Infra Competencies

Experience working with at least two enterprise customers for cloud implementations.

Strong communication, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.

4. Desirable Skills (Good-to-Have)

Microsoft Azure certification (e.g., 70-533 or AZseries).

Experience handling multi-cloud environments.

Knowledge of DC migration, P2V, V2V migrations.

Experience with monitoring, backup, patching, security tools.

Basic understanding of Linux workloads deployed on Azure.

Experience with MAP assessments and Azure migration planning tools.
