Microsoft Intune App Management Subject Matter Expert (SME)

ValidaTek is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Microsoft Intune App Management Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a large-scale endpoint modernization project for a multi-tenant enterprise environment.

This role is highly hands-on and focused on the end-to-end application lifecycle, including packaging, testing, deploying, and securing applications via Microsoft Intune.

The Intune App Management SME will play a critical role in migrating applications from legacy systems, defining packaging standards, and ensuring a seamless and secure application experience for all end-users.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have direct experience in the following areas:

  • Lead the application migration and management strategy for a large-scale transition to Microsoft Intune.
  • Engineer and manage the end-to-end application lifecycle, from packaging and testing to deployment, patching, and retirement.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot PowerShell scripts to automate application packaging, deployment checks, and reporting.
  • Migrate enterprise applications from MECM to Intune, establishing and implementing robust packaging standards, detection methods, and requirement scripts.
  • Design, configure, and manage Intune application deployment strategies, including required, available, and phased rollouts to targeted user and device groups.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, security, networking, and service desk teams to ensure project success.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to application delivery, installation, and functionality in a co-managed environment.
  • Develop detailed technical documentation, including application packaging standards, deployment runbooks, and operational guides.
  • Track and report on application deployment success, compliance, and performance.

Qualifications

Active DoD Secret Clearance, with Top Secret eligibility

BS degree and 8+ years of Windows systems administration/engineering experience.

Experience can be substituted in lieu of degree

CompTIA Security + CE or equivalent IAT Level II DoD 8570 certification

Must be able to commute onsite at least 3 days per week

Minimum of 5 years of Microsoft enterprise endpoint management experience, with a primary focus on application packaging and deployment

Understanding of DoD, DISA cybersecurity requirements

Proven experience migrating a large portfolio of applications from a legacy platform (like MECM/MCM) to Microsoft Intune

Strong experience with MECM/MCM, including task sequences, collections, application deployments, and co-management

Advanced PowerShell scripting skills for automating application lifecycle and reporting tasks

Strong knowledge of Windows 11 deployment, imaging, and provisioning workflows

Ability to troubleshoot complex application deployment and runtime issues in a large-scale enterprise

Capable of managing apps from the Microsoft Store, or custom-developed business apps

Preferred Skills:

DevSecOps software delivery model - Understanding of Agile methodology:

CMMI, ITIL

Microsoft certifications such as MD-102 (Endpoint Administrator Associate), AZ-104 (Azure Administrator Associate), or equivalent

Strong organizational and execution skills with attention to detail

Ability to operate effectively under tight timelines and high-volume workloads

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Self-directed, proactive, and comfortable owning critical migration components
