This opportunity offers hands-on exposure to advanced optical and networking technologies, enabling emerging mechanical engineers to contribute directly to real-world products while learning alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative, inclusive environment.How you will make an impact:
- Contribute to the mechanical design, implementation, and validation of complex circuit packs and optical plug assemblies for next-generation networking platforms
- Develop detailed mechanical part and assembly designs, including associated documentation, under the mentorship of senior engineers
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, optical, operations, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions
- Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles in partnership with manufacturing teams
- Build prototype assemblies and author First Piece Evaluation (FPE) reports
- Participate in technical design reviews, clearly communicating risks, trade-offs, and alignment with project requirements
- Support root cause analysis and sustaining engineering activities for released productsThe must haves:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) tools, preferably PTC Creo or SolidWorks
- Hands-on experience with laboratory measurement techniques and test equipment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to complex technical challenges
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing within a collaborative team environment
- Availability to work in personNice to haves:
- Exposure to telecommunications or networking technologies
- Experience maintaining or operating three-dimensional (3D) printers
- Experience designing plastic components using injection molding processes
- Experience designing metal components, including sheet metal, machined, or die-cast parts
- Familiarity with thermally constrained or high-density mechanical designsPay Range:The annual pay range for this position is $58,700 – $93,700.Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
