Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Animal Technician I to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Bethesda, MD.
As the Laboratory Animal Technician I, you will maintain and monitor the health, technical, and physical environments within the animal care facility. You'll work closely with the Clinical Veterinarians and Veterinary support staff to perform daily health assessments, clinical observations and providing treatments to the lab animals.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Technical support: animal handling and restraint, weaning, timed mating, tail snips, ear tagging, injections (Sub-Q, IP, tail vein), blood/tissue collections (mandibular, tail vein, term bleed: IC or RO), treatments, microinjections, surgical preparations, and post-operative observations.
- Familiarity with and ability to use various forms of anesthetic (Gas/Injectable).
- Provide environmental enrichment feed, other enrichment stimuli as well as behavioral assessments.
- Provide quality assurance to include animal health surveillance, HVAC, animal shipments, facility sanitation and other procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of animal importations, breeding, and health checks.
- Assist in assessing training needs; develop and present to staff and PIs.
- Prepare and submit written reports, charts, logs, and inventories.
Job Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements for the Lab Animal Technician I:
- High school diploma or GED.
- A minimum of 3 years' lab animal facility experience performing animal husbandry and clinical support.
- Must have LAT certification.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday: 7AM-3:30PM, weekends and holidays if necessary.
The pay range for this position is $27 to $30 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including skills, certifications, and location.
