Controller / CPA - Multi Entity - Canada & USA

Our customer is looking for a results driven, analytical leader to join their team in the role of Corporate Controller. This role will be responsible for the US and Canadian businesses supporting a growing organization of 60+ Engineering professionals delivering engineering and infrastructure services, with additional operations through our engineering hub in India.

Reporting to CEO / President, this role is responsible for supporting the Organization by establishing financial and accounting policies and control processes to ensure the due diligence of financial management activities. The Controller will develop, maintain and operate an effective financial governance structure for a multi-entity organization and will work closely with the leadership team on strategic initiatives including capital raising, acquisitions, and operational scaling.

The successful candidate must bring strong process and reporting improvement skills as well as a strong aptitude for leadership, to build a high performance team and achieve efficiencies in a complex environment. Ideally you also have experience building financial systems and processes from scratch within fast‑growing or entrepreneurial companies.

Operation in Canada & USA – Toronto, Maple, Dundas, GTA plus Los Angeles, CA and New York City.

Hybrid role – 2 days / week in office – Woodbridge or Dundas ONT Canada office; or in LA CA or NYC NY USA office.

Salary: $120 – 180K + performance bonus, benefits, and pension, 3 weeks vacation (negotiable depending on level) – Potential for long term equity / options participation.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and recommend strategies, policies, programs, processes, systems, standards, tools and templates for financial control systems and accounting processes.
  • Provide direction to financial staff and the Revenue Accounting organization.
  • Coordinate the implementation of approved strategies and plans.
  • Prepare short and long-term plans for implementing strategies and programs.
  • Manage and prepare regular financial reports for Commercial Operations activities in accordance with professional standards.
  • Maintain an in-depth awareness of the processes and practices in place across the Commercial Operations to maintain financial controls; continually assess and evaluate these for effectiveness and efficiency; develop and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain an in-depth awareness of the changes in the environment, which will affect approval and control processes and requirements, including legislative, regulatory, financial community, and professional trends.
  • Assist in the accounting, reporting and control processes for any new Market developments which include but are not limited to subsidiary activities and regulatory updates.
  • Ongoing financial management, budget development, day‑to‑day bookkeeping, cash flow management, payroll, and banking.
  • Liaise with external organizations and resources regarding information needs/requests, compliance and related issues.
  • Work with internal teams.
  • Build a team of professionals to achieve targeted results through:
  • Determining strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget and programs, compliance and performance targets, expectation for continuous improvements.
  • Setting an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work of the unit.
  • Understanding and ensuring personal and team compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, all corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to the work of the unit.
  • Establishing a two‑way working relationship with team members to solicit their views on conditions and potential changes affecting their work and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Assessing staff capability to do the required work – now and in the future.
  • Translating and communicating the corporate goals and objectives into a direction which guides the operation of the unit.
  • Providing a work environment that supports and values diversity and is free from harassment.

EDUCATION

  • “CPA, CA” designation.
  • University degree with emphasis on Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or equivalent.
  • Masters degree in Accounting or an MBA would be an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a dynamical accounting professional with the following:

  • 3+ years of accounting and reporting experience post CPA designation. Approximate 7-8 years experience in Finance.
