Chevy Chase Bethesda Community Children's Center (CCBC) is seeking a dedicated and thoughtful early childhood educators, one at the Lead Teacher level and one Assistant Teacher for the 26-27 school year. The position will begin August 24th, 2026.
CCBC Children's Center is a non-denominational preschool located in Northwest DC for children ages 15 months to 5 years old. Our educational practice is guided by the belief that children learn best through meaningful, child-centered play. We are dedicated to creating an engaging and responsive program that puts fostering child’s curiosity, independence, and joy at the forefront of our work. Staff arrive on site at 8:45 M-F and work either until 1:15 in our half day classrooms or 3:00 PM in our full day classrooms. All children dismiss at 12:30 on Fridays for staff prep time and meetings.
Lead Teachers must have either at least an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field OR at least an Associates Degree in any field with at least 12 credits in ECE OR a CDA and be enrolled in a degree seeking program in Early Childhood Education.
Assistant Teachers must have at least a CDA at the time of employment OR at least an Associates Degree in any subject.

Job Duties Include:
CURRICULUM AND PLANNING
Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program which is based on CCBC’s play-based philosophy, goals, and understanding of best practices by:
- Crafting lessons/curriculum framework based on the needs, interests, and abilities of the children
- Implementing lessons/activities with flexibility and using a variety of teaching techniques to meet the learning needs of of the children in the classroom
- Collaborating with teaching partners, administrators, and enrichment teachers to expand upon lessons/curriculum
- Creating and maintaining a learning environment that addresses all areas of development and includes a variety of hands-on, participatory learning experiences (sensory, active play, dramatic play)
Attend staff meetings and team meetings to:
- Develop curriculum and procedures with the Director, Assistant Director, and other teachers
- Address and discuss questions regarding children’s development, behaviors, and interests
- Maintain open, professional communication with team, engaging in collaborative planning, and problem solve as part of a larger group
- Engage in discussion and connect with colleagues during workshops and trainings
- Plan special events for children that pertain to the curriculum in order to deepen exploration and/or as part of larger school events (such as Week of the Young Child)
- Use understanding and knowledge of ongoing schools to support skill development
SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN AND CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENTS
Create and maintain a classroom that is safe, attractive, welcoming, and designed for the children in mind by:
- Supplying and rotating age appropriate materials on a regular basis
- Keeping clutter to a minimum to ensure the classroom is clean and hygienic
- Preparing bulletin board displays that are timely, meaningful, and represent the work/interests of the children
- Monitoring space for clear sight lines, broken objects, hazardous materials or situations
- Keeping toys, table tops, changing areas, and shelves clean, organized and sanitized
- Maintaining accurate and complete records of attendance, submit attendance records to the office at the end of each month
Stay actively engaged in activities in the classroom in order to respond, scaffold, and support behaviors as needed with the most informed understanding of the needs of the group by:
- Engaging in child-led play
- Joining children at their level by sitting on the floor or at a table where children are working
- Asking purposeful questions and engaging in meaningful conversation
- Modeling appropriate language, problem solving skills, and play skills
COMMUNICATION
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and other staff members
- Maintain a professional and open attitude with parents/caregivers
- Keep parents/caregivers informed of their child’s progress and behaviors; proactively approach families if there is concerning behavior or questions regarding a child’s development
- Prepare and organize Parent Teacher Conferences twice a year and work portfolios at the end of the year
- Write weekly class newsletters to highlight curriculum and learning of their class; share photos to support making learning visible
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Complete all required 21 hours annually of OSSE mandated training hours in a timely manner
- Attend and participate in training workshops either held onsite at CCBC or off site as scheduled
- Stay up to date on current understanding of child development, classroom norms, and best practices in early childhood development
PROFESSIONALISM AND CONDUCT
- Arrive prepared and on time each day
- Implement time management tools to stay up to date on classroom activities, paperwork, and communications
- Maintain confidentiality with regards to children, parents, and staff
- Remain engaged with work activities during working hours
- Respond to the concerns of children, parents, and other staff members with objectivity, consistency, clarity, and compassion
- Respond to discourse with Director, Assistant Director, and peers with curiosity and respect
- Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to change
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Use a wide range of motion, including but not limited to, sitting down and standing up with children, getting up from and down onto the floor and chairs, moving quickly, walking, pushing, pulling, using stairs, and bending.
- Work at least one hour daily outside in a range of temperatures and reasonable weather conditions.
EDUCATIONAL/ADDITIONAL PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- CDA or willingness to pursue CDA required
- High school diploma or equivalency required
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred but not required (school will provide training if needed)
- Candidates must be able to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screening
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.90 - $32.50 per hour
