Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Non-Profit Staff Accountant to join our dedicated finance team. Responsibilities
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing processes using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero.
- Prepare and interpret financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and nonprofit-specific standards like FASB guidelines.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections while maintaining accurate records.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and bank reconciliations to ensure data integrity across all financial accounts.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements, including compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) provisions and other governmental regulations relevant to non-profit entities.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support organizational planning and decision-making.
- Maintain detailed documentation of financial transactions, including debits & credits, journal entries, and audit trails; mentor junior staff members in best practices for accounting procedures.
- Collaborate with external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation related to securities law compliance and internal controls.
- Contribute to internal controls development by implementing policies aligned with LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) regulations and other funding requirements.
- Support payroll processing and manage employee expense reimbursements using systems like PeopleSoft or similar platforms.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Proven experience in nonprofit accounting or governmental accounting environments.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting principles, double-entry bookkeeping, and financial concepts specific to non-profit organizations.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft; familiarity with Quicken is a plus.
- Knowledge of regulatory reporting standards including SOX compliance and securities law applicable to nonprofit entities.
- Experience with financial statement preparation, financial report writing, interpretation of financial data, and cash flow analysis.
- Ability to perform account reconciliation accurately while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail; strong communication skills for clear financial report interpretation.
- Demonstrated mentoring ability to support team development in technical accounting practices such as Wills, trusts & estate law or public accounting principles is advantageous. Pay: $72,000.00 - $83,739.55 per year
