Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Audio‑Visual Technician to support our live events and equipment rental operations. This role involves hands‑on technical work, client interaction, and opportunities to contribute to business growth. The ideal candidate has strong AV experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to represent our company professionally at various event venues.

This position begins as part‑time/on‑call, with the opportunity to transition into part‑time contract and eventually a full‑time role as our event volume increases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and strike audio‑visual equipment including projectors, displays, microphones, speakers, mixers, lighting, and teleconferencing systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and professionally during live events.
  • Maintain, test, and repair AV equipment as needed.
  • Interpret and work from schematics, signal flow diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Communicate with clients and venue staff to understand event requirements and ensure seamless execution.
  • Upsell equipment and services when appropriate to enhance event quality and support business growth.
  • Manage and coordinate rental equipment owned by Canadian Smart Systems, ensuring proper tracking, care, and return.
  • Represent the company professionally at all times while building relationships with event venues and partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience with audio‑visual systems, live event setups, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to upsell and build client relationships.
  • Proficiency with computer hardware/software and basic networking concepts.
  • Knowledge of low‑voltage systems, electrical fundamentals, and telecommunications.
  • Ability to maintain and repair AV equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools for installations and equipment setup.

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Experience with AV‑related software troubleshooting (DSPs, control systems, conferencing platforms, etc.).
  • Familiarity with event production workflows and venue coordination.
