Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for an Associate or Experienced Software Engineer (Level 2 or 3) to support the software and hardware development of electro-optical systems at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This position supports the Research and Development (R&D) mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities. The site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. Starfire Optical Range is a world class research facility with recognized achievements, enabled by the quality, enthusiasm, and dedication of our entire team. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, quantum systems to achieve research objectives.
This engineer would work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the development of user interfaces, hardware interfaces, control systems, data acquisition systems, distributed system network middleware, and data analysis.

Position Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain code with integration of software components into a fully functional system. Everything from low-level device interface control and networking to sophisticated graphical user interfaces.
- Create and execute test procedures to ensure software products meet the highest standards of quality and performance. In addition, creating and documenting test results to contribute to continuous refinement of systems.
- Gather information to support software project management.
- Document deployed processes and tools and collect metrics.
- Support software research and development projects.
- Troubleshoots basic software and hardware issues.
- Integrate systems and components into the existing site-wide distributed system.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- 1+ years of experience programming in C, C#, C++, Java, Python or Visual Basic
- 1+ years of experience writing software for low level device interface control as well as graphical user interface applications
- 1+ years of experience with software development on Windows or Linux
- Must be willing to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends
- Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with MATLAB
- Experience with LabVIEW
- Experience developing network communication applications
- Experience developing imaging sensor applications
- Experience with the development, test and evaluation of hardware and software required for electro-mechanical/optical control system implementation
- Strong writing and presentation skills with experience communicating to senior decision-makers and technical audiences
- Effective in small team work environment with broad responsibilities and minimal oversight
- Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Clearance

Associate (Level 2) Summary pay range: $91,800 – $124,200
Experienced (Level 3) Summary pay range: $112,200 – $151,800
