Job Description
At VascuBio, we are building next-generation bioreactor and organ-on-chip systems to improve how human tissues are grown and tested for drug discovery, especially in areas like neuroscience where current models fall short. We are looking for a hands-on, curious, and driven intern to join our R&D team. This is not a passive or simulation-only role. You will work directly on real hardware and experiments that contribute to systems used by researchers and pharma partners. While this is an internship, the scope and expectations are closer to a graduate-level role. Candidates at the MSc or PhD level are preferred, though strong undergraduate candidates may also be considered. WHO WE ARE We are a fast-moving biotech startup developing vascularized, perfused tissue platforms for drug screening and biomarker discovery. Our work combines microfluidics, biomaterials, and automation to create scalable, human-relevant models. We collaborate with leading academic labs and industry partners and have secured multiple R&D contracts and grants to advance our technology. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES What you'll do Design and Prototyping Design and iterate bioreactor components using CAD Fabricate and assemble prototypes using 3D printing and lab tools Testing and Experiments Perform hands on testing including flow characterization, leak testing, and system validation Support and run experiments under real lab conditions Troubleshoot issues and iterate quickly Systems and Integration Assist with integration of sensors for flow, pressure, oxygen, and pH Contribute to improving system performance and reproducibility Data and Documentation Analyze results and translate findings into design improvements Document experiments, designs, and results clearly Participate in design reviews and technical discussions WHAT YOU GET Hands on experience building biotech hardware Exposure to microfluidics, tissue engineering, and drug discovery Mentorship from an experienced, interdisciplinary team Opportunity to grow into a longer term role QUALIFICATIONS Background in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Life Sciences, or a related field, preferably MSc or PhD candidates in their final years Strong interest in building systems that combine biology and engineering Comfortable working hands on in a lab or prototyping environment Ability to take ownership and work in a fast paced team Experience with CAD such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360 is an asset Exposure to fluid mechanics, biomaterials, or lab testing is an asset Experience with 3D printing or rapid prototyping is an asset Interest in biotech, organ-on-chip, or medical devices is an asset
