Short Description
The regional journalist covers local news with rigor and creativity, producing content adapted to digital and television platforms. The position is suitable for a versatile individual, capable of covering a variety of local topics independently. The work environment encourages close ties with the community and a field-based approach.
Responsibilities
- Propose and develop original subjects to cover based on local news; ability to break new ground
- Cover events for TV and digital, conduct interviews, write texts
- Shoot his or her own images; set up / edit / shed light on and produce news reports for both TV and digital
- Deliver live or pre-recorded content as needed for news bulletins
- Adapt formats to digital trends
- Maintain a network of contacts relevant to the region
- Follow editorial standards and guidelines regarding accuracy, ethics and legal issues
- Ensure that equipment and cell phone are in good working order
- Configure and use live equipment as needed
- Perform any other related tasks requested by the immediate supervisor
Critical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, film, communications or the equivalent
- Minimum of five years of experience in television / the Internet
- Proven experience in news reporting, and ability to perform in front of the camera
- Strong writing and storytelling skills and knowledge of local, national and international news and current events
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Good understanding of social media and its audience
- Proven filming and editing abilities
- Proven organizational skills, and ability to work autonomously under tight deadlines
- Good editorial judgment; demonstrated ability to produce original, enterprising news reports
- Ability to manage new and emerging technologies
- Knowledge of iNews an asset
- Valid driver’s licence and good record
- Sufficient knowledge of French is required for positions in Québec. Masculine pronouns are used only for the purposes of lightening the text with no intended discrimination.
