Role Overview:
The Director of Finance, Strategy at Avalara plays a critical leadership role by partnering with functional leaders across the organization to provide strategic financial insights and actions. Exceptional communication, analytical skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships with senior leadership are essential for this role. You will be responsible for developing a high-performing team of financial analysts and financial systems analysts, managing financial reporting, forecasting, variance analysis, and supporting the Global FP&A team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be a strategic partner to functional leaders, offering insightful analysis and recommendations to guide informed decision-making and ensure consistent strategy, measurement, and reporting across the global organization.
- Develop and mentor a team of financial analysts and financial systems analysts, fostering individual career growth and enhancing overall team performance.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely financial reports and variance analysis, effectively communicating important drivers to senior leadership.
- Collaborate with the Global FP&A team to ensure alignment on strategic programs, financial targets, and data and process consistency.
- Oversee and improve financial planning processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and strategic value.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through proactive analytics and financial modeling.
- Identify opportunities for internal process improvement, establish best practices, and lead change and improvements to facilitate team growth.
- Lead a team of financial planning and analysis professionals to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial data and management reporting.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- 10 years of progressive finance experience with demonstrated strategic leadership responsibilities.
- Experience in leading and developing high-performing finance teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage senior leadership.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.
- Proficiency with financial planning systems and tools, with experience optimizing financial systems such as Workday Adaptive or Anaplan.
- Ability to foster relationships of trust and collaboration at all organizational levels.
