Job Description
Senior Accountant
About the Role
ascentia CPA is looking for a Senior Accountant for our Nipawin office who enjoys hands-on year-end work, client communication, and working in a modern cloud-based environment. This role is ideal for someone who wants to focus on producing high-quality technical work in a collaborative firm environment with minimal internal bureaucracy.
The successful candidate will primarily work on compilation engagements, CRA correspondence, and client files, while also assisting with T1 personal tax returns during tax season as needed. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced public practice accountant who values autonomy, consistency, and direct access to decision-makers within the firm.
Work Hours
Candidates should be available to work standard business hours during the week, with some overtime expected during tax season.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare year-end compilation engagements using Caseware
- Draft and respond to CRA information requests and review letters
- Complete adjusting entries, reconciliations, analytical review, and reviewer-ready documentation
- Prepare T1 personal tax returns during tax season
- Communicate with clients to gather missing information and clarify year-end matters
- Work directly with the Senior Manager to complete files accurately and efficiently
- Use a fully paperless, cloud-based workflow for all engagements
What You Bring
- 3+ years of public practice experience in a small or mid-size firm
- Strong working knowledge of Caseware, Xero, QBO, and TaxPrep (T1/T2)
- Solid understanding of CSRS 4200 compilation requirements and basic tax concepts
- Strong Excel skills for working papers, reconciliations, and analytical review
- Experience working with farming or agricultural clients
- Ability to independently manage multiple files with strong organization and follow-through
- Clear, professional written communication skills for CRA correspondence and client communication
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Familiarity with cloud-based workflows
- Exposure to Review Engagements
- CPA designation is an asset but not required
Who Thrives Here
- Someone who enjoys technical year-end work and prefers a hands-on role focused on client files rather than internal management responsibilities
- A detail-oriented accountant who values autonomy, clarity, and efficient processes
- A professional who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work within a supportive team environment
What We Offer
- Opportunity to work on files from multiple offices, including Sidney (BC), Surrey (BC), Port Hardy (BC), 100 Mile House (BC), and Nipawin (SK)
- Comprehensive benefits plan
- Modern cloud-based systems and fully paperless workflows
- Direct access to firm leadership and decision-makers
- A collaborative, respectful, and low-bureaucracy work environment
- Exposure to a diverse client base across multiple industries
- A stable year-round workload with strong process support
- Opportunity for the role to evolve over time based on the candidate’s strengths and interests
If you are looking for a clear, technically focused role where you can do meaningful year-end work in a modern and supportive firm environment, ascentia CPA would love to connect with you. Please send your resume to info@ascentiacpa.ca.
