It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!Description of Work*Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesThis position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County, NC. This position is assignment to the Food Service area at the minimum and medium custody facility.

Employees in the class are responsible for supervision of Correctional Food Service Officers and providing oversight of inmates performing large scale food production.

Responsibilities may include management supervision of multiple locations minimum and medium custody facility managed within the scope of the larger facility. Employees plan, direct, and supervise the daily preparation and serving of food to inmates. This position is responsible for monitoring the quality of the meals served and ensures that meals are prepared in accordance with policy.

This position maintains a satisfactory level of cleanliness and ensures equipment is in good repair. Must be able to comprehend and calculate menus and menus planning using substitutions, observe sanitary food handling practices, understand food nutritional values, inventory and rotate stock, and requisition food and supplies within budget. This position supervises subordinate staff, writes job descriptions and performance evaluations.

Must communicate both verbally and in written form; comprehend and abide by verbal and written instructions; works a varied work schedule and be able to report during emergencies. This is a certified position and must successfully complete all basic/annual training to include unarmed self-defense, firearms, and CPR. Successful completion of pre-employment testing is required.Salary Range: $37,377- $65,408Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preference: Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities.
