Job Description
Develop Your Career in a Global Sports SaaS Leader
We’re looking for a systems administrator and DevOps generalist who can own ARMS Health’s infrastructure end to end. This is a mixed Windows/Linux environment supporting a healthcare EMR used by professional sports teams—which means the security and reliability bar is extremely high. You’ll be responsible for production infrastructure, database operations, security posture, compliance, and the automation that ties it all together.
This is not a “cloud architect” role where you draw diagrams in Lucidchart. You will SSH into boxes, write shell scripts, tune database queries, harden servers, and keep production running. You’ll work directly with our engineering team and report to the Chairman/CTO.
What You’ll Own
- Production infrastructure management across Windows Server and Linux environments, including IIS, Active Directory, and related services
- SQL Server administration: performance tuning, backup/recovery, replication, stored procedure debugging, SSIS packages, and schema migrations
- PostgreSQL operations for migrated and net-new workloads: replication, monitoring, tuning, and backup strategies
- Security and HIPAA compliance: access controls, audit logging, encryption (at rest and in transit), vulnerability management, and incident response procedures
- Network security: firewall rules, VPN management, network segmentation for clinical data environments, and attack surface reduction across a distributed team
- Identity and access management: Active Directory, RBAC, MFA enforcement, service account hygiene across 30+ engineers in 14 countries
- Monitoring, alerting, and centralized logging: building and maintaining observability with open-source tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Graylog, or similar)
- Backup and disaster recovery with a security-first mindset: encrypted offsite backups, tested restores, and ransomware resilience
- CI/CD pipeline ownership: GitHub Actions or equivalent, automated testing, and deployment automation
- ASP.NET / IIS application support: app pool management, deployment pipelines, troubleshooting production issues in .NET applications
- Automation of everything: if you’re doing it more than twice, script it
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Deep Linux/Unix systems administration experience—you think in processes, sockets, filesystems, and kernel behavior, not just GUI consoles
- Strong Windows Server administration: Active Directory, Group Policy, IIS, Windows Event Logs, and general server hardening
- Production SQL Server experience: query plan analysis, index tuning, backup/restore, SSIS, and SSRS. You’ve managed databases that run real business logic in stored procedures
- PostgreSQL operational experience: replication, pg_dump/pg_basebackup, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, connection pooling (PgBouncer), and monitoring
- Working knowledge of Python for automation, tooling, and scripting beyond trivial tasks
- Strong shell scripting (Bash): you automate infrastructure tasks, don’t click through GUIs
- Security experience in a regulated environment (healthcare, finance, or similar): HIPAA technical safeguards, vulnerability scanning and remediation, endpoint hardening, and pen test interpretation
- Networking fundamentals at the packet level: tcpdump, Wireshark, DNS, firewall rules, VPN configuration—not just “I can configure a security group”
- Experience with ASP.NET / classic ASP application hosting and troubleshooting in IIS
- 3+ years in a systems administration, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering role
Strongly Preferred
- Experience in healthcare IT or working with PHI (Protected Health Information) in production
- Hands-on experience with HIPAA audits and compliance documentation
- Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools (Nessus, Qualys, or Burp Suite) and the ability to remediate findings independently
- Experience managing infrastructure at a lean company, MSP, or consulting environment where you wore multiple hats
- Cost-conscious instincts: you benchmark before buying and prefer Prometheus + Grafana over a $500/month SaaS monitoring tool
- Comfort with AI-assisted workflows (e.g., using Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot to accelerate your own work)
- Experience migrating workloads between cloud providers or from cloud to bare metal
Who You Are
- Self-directed and async-first: you operate independently across time zones without needing daily standups or hand-holding
- Low ego, high output: you fix problems without waiting for a ticket, a meeting, or a title
- Security-minded by default, not by checklist: you build compliant infrastructure because it’s the right thing to do, not because an auditor told you to
- Pragmatic, not dogmatic: you’re comfortable with Windows and Linux, SQL Server and PostgreSQL, cloud and bare metal—you pick the right tool for the job
- A builder and automator: if something can be scripted, you’ve already scripted it
- Comfortable communicating clearly in writing with a distributed, international team
What We Offer
- Fully remote position with flexible hours
- Direct access to leadership—no layers of middle management
- Opportunity to own infrastructure at a company serving the highest-profile clients in sports medicine
- A lean, fast-moving environment where your work has immediate, visible impact
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
