Role Profile: Head – Supply Chain Management

Direct Reporting: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Hyderabad

Role Purpose The Head – SCM is responsible for leading and overseeing the end-to-end procurement function, encompassing both general (high-volume, low-ticket) and strategic & specialized (high-value, niche) categories. The role ensures cost-effective, compliant, and timely sourcing of goods and services essential to healthcare operations.

This position plays a critical role in optimizing supplier relationships, driving operational efficiency, and aligning procurement strategies with organizational goals to support healthcare delivery excellence.

Procurement Strategy and Execution

  • Develop and implement comprehensive procurement strategies for both high-volume and specialized categories, ensuring alignment with organizational and clinical objectives.
  • Forecast demand and plan procurement activities based on data analysis, market trends, and operational requirements.
  • Identify and evaluate market opportunities, emerging products, and innovative sourcing options to improve cost and quality.
  • Establish procurement frameworks, guidelines, and workflows that balance efficiency, compliance, and value creation.

Vendor and Contract Management

  • Build and maintain a robust supplier network to ensure a reliable and diverse supply base for both routine and specialized needs.
  • Lead supplier qualification, onboarding, and evaluation processes, assessing performance on quality, delivery, compliance, and cost.
  • Negotiate and manage long-term contracts and strategic partnerships with domestic and global suppliers.
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews and ensure adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs) and contractual obligations.
  • Develop contingency and continuity plans to mitigate risks related to supplier disruptions or market volatility.

Cost Optimization and Budgeting

  • Drive cost reduction and value enhancement initiatives through negotiation, process improvement, and supplier consolidation.
  • Conduct lifecycle cost and cost-benefit analyses for high-value procurements to ensure sustainable value realization.
  • Maintain strong budgetary discipline, tracking procurement expenditure, and ensuring adherence to approved financial plans.
  • Secure favorable payment terms and pricing structures that balance liquidity needs with supplier satisfaction.

Inventory Management

Ensure no stock out scenario

Guide the team on effective planning

Review and set up ROL for all the locations

Reduce wastage

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee the end-to-end procurement lifecycle—from needs assessment and purchase order management to delivery and post-procurement evaluation.
  • Introduce automation and digital tools to streamline procurement workflows and improve transparency
  • Collaborate with logistics, inventory, finance, and clinical operations to synchronize procurement with operational demands.
  • Monitor procurement KPIs to evaluate performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Risk and Compliance Management

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Conduct supplier due diligence to identify and mitigate risks related to quality, ethics, or financial stability.
  • Maintain robust documentation and audit readiness across all procurement processes.
  • Regularly update procurement policies to reflect regulatory and market changes, ensuring proactive risk management.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and mentor the procurement team across both general and specialized functions, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
  • Identify skill gaps and implement development programs to build domain and technical expertise within the team.
  • Establish performance goals, review progress regularly, and recognize achievements to promote a high-performance culture.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to align procurement priorities with broader organizational strategy.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience, And Competencies Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
  • Professional certification in procurement (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) is highly desirable.
