Job Description

About the job:

The Vjal Institute is a social impact organization set up with a primary goal to ensure AI is accessible and beneficial to all, and we're tirelessly working towards creating that world where communities, corporate entities, grassroots organizations, and governments are well-equipped and prepared to integrate AI into their operations and frameworks. One of our primary missions is to train a million individuals in AI, and to achieve this we are cultivating an ecosystem of AI evangelists, a global network of individuals who can champion the cause of AI. This network is a vital connection between knowledge seekers and providers, bridging gaps and promoting a comprehensive understanding of AI.

Role Summary

  • Were hiring a hands-on WordPress Web Designer & Developer to own the day-to-day build and upkeep of our website. Your primary focus is creating and maintaining high-quality pages (especially landing pages), ensuring excellent performance and reliability, managing hosting and technical operations, and handling integrations with our membership and learning ecosystem.
  • Our stack includes WordPress, Elementor as our page builder, MemberPress for memberships/subscriptions, and multiple integrations with our LMS, Xano DB, SSO, and other tools. This role sits close to marketing and product operations and requires someone who is dependable, fast, and detail-oriented.

Primary Responsibilities (Core Role)

1) Website Design & Development (WordPress + Elementor)

  • Design and build web pages in WordPress using Elementor, with a strong focus on clean UX, responsiveness, and brand consistency.
  • Create and maintain reusable components (sections, templates, global styles) to keep the site scalable and consistent.
  • Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility, accessibility basics, and high-quality QA before publishing.

2) Landing Pages & Campaign Builds

  • Build high-performing landing pages for campaigns, product launches, and lead generation.
  • Implement forms, CTAs, page sections, and page layouts provided by marketing and/or stakeholders.
  • Maintain speed and performance best practices while building in Elementor (lightweight sections, optimized images/assets).

3) Membership & Subscription Website Operations (MemberPress)

  • Configure and maintain MemberPress: pricing pages, checkout flow, access rules, member account pages, emails, and renewal/upgrade logic.
  • Troubleshoot membership-related issues that affect the website experience (access, checkout errors, user journey issues).
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure membership flows reflect current business rules.

4) Integrations & Technical Connectivity (LMS, Xano DB, SSO, etc.)

  • Maintain and troubleshoot website integrations with existing tools/platforms, including:
  • LMS (course access, enrollment journeys, member gating)
  • Xano DB (data flows, APIs/webhooks where applicable)
  • SSO (authentication/login experiences, access control)
  • Other website tools (CRM forms, email capture, chat widgets, scheduling tools, etc.)
  • Debug issues across WordPress/plugins and integration points, and coordinate fixes with internal/external technical teams when needed.

5) Hosting, Reliability, Security & Maintenance

  • Manage hosting and website operations: uptime monitoring, backups, staging/live workflows, plugin/theme updates, and rollback readiness.
  • Maintain performance fundamentals: caching/CDN coordination, image optimization, database housekeeping (as needed).
  • Ensure basic security hygiene: SSL, permissions, updates, vulnerability-aware plugin usage, and access management.

6) Ongoing Site Improvements & Support

  • Maintain existing pages and site sections: updates, new sections, content edits, design refreshes, and bug fixes.
  • Keep documentation for key site systems (critical plugins, integration notes, common fixes) to reduce future downtime.

Secondary Responsibilities (Marketing Support / Enablement)

These are collaborative responsibilities where you support marketing execution by implementing and maintaining required technical elements.

  • Partner with marketing to implement on-page SEO basics (titles/meta, headers, internal linking, image alt text, clean URL structures).
  • Support tracking implementation in collaboration with marketing/digital teams (GA4/GTM tags, pixels, event tracking placements, conversion tracking QA).
  • Help maintain cookie consent banners and consent-friendly tracking configuration (based on company policy/tools).
  • Assist with basic reporting readiness by ensuring tracking is firing correctly and pages are tagged consistently (UTMs, naming conventions, etc.).

Note: Strategy ownership for SEO/ads/analytics can remain with Marketing; your role is primarily implementation + technical QA.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience building and maintaining WordPress websites.
  • High proficiency with Elementor (responsive builds, templates, global styling, performance-minded layout).
  • Experience with membership/subscription websites, ideally MemberPress.
  • Solid front-end fundamentals: HTML/CSS, and enough JavaScript to troubleshoot common issues and implement lightweight scripts.
  • Proven ability to manage hosting and site operations (updates, backups, staging, troubleshooting, performance basics).
  • Experience integrating WordPress with third-party tools (LMS, CRM/email tools, APIs/webhooks, SSO/auth flows).

Preferred

  • Familiarity with GA4/GTM implementation and event tracking QA.
  • Practical understanding of technical/on-page SEO implementation.
  • Experience working with SSO flows and membership gating logic.
  • Experience integrating with platforms like Xano (or similar backend/API systems).
  • CRO familiarity (not required, but helpful when building landing pages).

What Success Looks Like (First 6090 Days)

  • Landing pages and key website updates ship quickly, look great, and work flawlessly on mobile/desktop.
  • MemberPress flows (pricing checkout access) are stable, clear, and low-friction.
  • Integrations (LMS/Xano/SSO) are documented, monitored, and issues are resolved quickly.
  • Website operations are reliable: updates, backups, uptime, and performance are consistently maintained.
  • Marketing feels supported because SEO/tracking requests are implemented cleanly and validated.
