DESCRIPTION
AWS Water Infrastructure Engineer – US East
About AWS Infrastructure
AWS Infrastructure owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We manage the data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain—and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of engineers, scientists, planners, and operations managers to deliver critical digital infrastructure. You'll collaborate with teams across AWS to uphold the highest standards for safety and security while delivering capacity at the lowest possible cost. You'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
About the Role
AWS is seeking a results-oriented individual to join the Water Infrastructure Team. In this role, you will execute water-based cooling infrastructure projects in the US East region, working with internal teams—including real estate, engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations—as well as external partners such as engineering consultants, general contractors, water treatment vendors, and local utilities. You will drive feasibility, design, and delivery of infrastructure projects that meet regulatory standards and a high bar for operational efficiency, reliability, and safety at the lowest possible cost.
You will manage the delivery of multiple concurrent projects, monitor operational efficiency metrics, and build system resiliency for handoff to regional operations teams. You will also serve as the central point of contact for all matters related to water and wastewater treatment and disinfection systems, and for maintaining productive relationships with utility partners.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate brings a strong water infrastructure background, an understanding of data center water-based cooling systems, and an interest in innovation and sustainability in the water sector.
Key job responsibilities
The Water Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for the following:
- Manage the planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater infrastructure projects that support water delivery to data centers
- Negotiate the terms and oversee the execution of utility system contracts and connection agreements related to domestic, fire, and cooling water supply and wastewater infrastructure
- Engineer, design, construct and monitor water treatment/operations projects and identify optimal design criteria for scaling projects to full-scale deployment across different regions in North America
- Manage projects that directly support water sustainability goals
- Work with internal teams to troubleshoot problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for design and fleet deployed water systems
- Work with local water utilities to understand and coordinate site utility requirements, site inspections and compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes
- Track and manage reliability and maintenance of water systems, as well as the resiliency of sources of water supply required for data center cooling
- Work with Operations to monitor water consumption and develop resiliency plans for water supply sources
- Oversee support and testing/validation of systems during installation, operation, and maintenance of water treatment equipment and associated mechanical system.
- Interface with internal engineering, operations, real estate and environmental health and safety and legal teams to develop and implement solutions in rural areas that often lack adequate available water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Oversee maintenance, reliability and compliance of on-site water treatment and disinfection systems.
- Up to 20% travel as needed for project execution where authorized.
