Position Summary:
This role is crucial for maintaining the organization's reputation, engaging the community, and supporting strategic goals through effective communication practices. Working directly with the management team of the Consultation department, the Communications Operations Manager acts as an integral part of the communications process, providing leadership, direction and governance of assigned communications projects and activities related to consultation and engagement to ensure the factual and timely delivery of information to targeted audiences. Works in collaboration with the department and key AOPFN leadership to develop, establish and manage communication strategies and foster positive relationships with stakeholders and the media. Establishes relationships with key business contacts, working closely with AOPFN staff as required to define key informational metrics to have vital information reach targeted audiences within defined deadlines. Assists with managing risks associated with information gathering and release. Responsible for the supervision of assigned employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and Implement Communication Strategies
- Create comprehensive communication plans and strategies that align with the department’s goals, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms
- Develop and implement project-specific communication protocols to ensure AOPFN’s communications expectations are clearly laid out
- Maintain and continually improve a coordinated, proactive, and effective corporate internal and external communications strategy
- Provide expert advice about communications and engagement.
- Provide recommendations on the communications strategy including content, brand, and messaging in releases, publications, website, social media, annual report, newsletters, and SharePoint to provide a coordinated, structured approach to the delivery of internal and external communications
- Effective strategic and operational management of the department’s communications channels to meet business needs.
- Support the continued development and implementation of the Algonquin Foods Program, a risk communication program, to ensure the AOPFN membership has trusted information for all projects occurring in the territory.
2. Media
- Plan and manage media liaison
- Manage media inquiries.
- Produce and manage content, develop and maintain information to be shared on AOPFN websites and social media pages and the presentation of information
- Manage AOPFN brand and reputation on behalf of the department
- Contribute to internal and external events.
- Write, edit, and distribute various content types, including press releases, newsletters, speeches, community updates, and social media posts to enhance engagement and consultation
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, influencers and community leaders to facilitate positive coverage and partnerships
- Organize and oversee events such as press conferences and promotional activities to boost the organization’s visibility and media coverage with respect to projects undertaken by the department
3. Project Management
- Manage assigned projects including and not limited to:
- Provide direct oversight and coordination of assigned project and activities including project cost, scope management, time management and the associated reporting, benchmarking and scheduling of the activities to meet project objectives;
- Developing agendas, maintaining meeting records and supporting community engagement;
- Provide oversight of the implementation of the assigned project working and sub working groups, includes leading weekly touch base meetings, preparation and debrief meetings, and facilitation;
- Effectively communicate project progress to working group members, employees, colleagues, and stakeholders in a timely and clear manner;
- Provide oversight of tracking assigned projects established milestones and results to ensure deliverables are met within the given timelines;
- Engaging with appropriate contractors or resources of the parties to provide technical assistance;
- Preparing, reviewing, finalizing and approving of written correspondence, interventions, motions, reports, plans, memoranda, and etc. as needed;
- Overseeing, facilitating, directing and supporting the development of community outreach and engagement;
- Obtaining bi-weekly status reports from contracted specialists or others involved in projects.

REQURIEMENTS:
- Post-Secondary Certification/Diploma/Degree in relevant area of study related to Communications, Public Relations or Marketing, or related field, with a minimum of two (2) year’s direct working experience in the field.
- Must demonstrate a minimum of two (2) years' experience in leadership practices, project management coordination, facilitation and budget oversight.
