Your Opportunity:

This position primarily supports Lymphedema and Speech‑Language Pathology services within an adult outpatient rehabilitation setting. The Therapy Assistant will work mainly with Lymphedema clients and individuals receiving speech, language, and cognitive‑communication therapy, while also supporting Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreation Therapy, and other rehabilitation services as needed. Experience with adult compression therapy and/or speech, language, and cognitive‑communication interventions, including virtual and group‑based programming, is an asset. The successful candidate will support all disciplines of the rehabilitation team, assist with education sessions, and help prepare treatment and learning materials. The ideal candidate is a Speech‑Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) or Therapy Assistant with strong clinical, organizational, and computer skills and an interest in adult rehabilitation. The Community Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Service (CRIS) clinics at the Mother Rosalie Health Services Building (Misericordia Community Hospital), Kaye Edmonton Clinic, and Strathcona County Community Hospital are seeking a Therapy Assistant to provide care to community‑dwelling adults with complex and neurological conditions. This role offers the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team and provide high‑quality, patient‑centered care under therapist supervision, while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting student learning.

Description

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current BCLS‑HCP certification is required. Connect Care training is required for documentation and related clinical tasks. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with demonstrated problem‑solving, planning, and organizational abilities. The successful candidate must be able to prioritize workload, work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team, and demonstrate a strong patient‑ and family‑centered approach to care. A working knowledge of computer applications—including basic word processing, email, and internet use—is required. This role may involve moderate physical effort (20–50 lbs.) related to equipment handling, including bending, lifting, and pulling to assist with client transfers and therapeutic interventions. The ability to navigate stairs is required for access to clinical sites and to support client exercises and functional training. Prolonged sitting with use of a laptop and related technology (e.g., headset) is expected for point‑of‑care documentation and delivery of virtual services.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with neurological patients and patients with complex rehabilitation needs is preferred. Training and experience providing speech therapy is preferred. Experience providing group treatment is considered an asset. Training and experience in implementing Health Change Methodology™ principles is an asset. Experience working with Connect Care scheduling and/or EMR is considered an asset.
