Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment
Power plant operators are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of building systems and equipment.
They monitor and operate building management systems that control temperature, air quality, water, and medical gases. Ultimately, power plant operators ensure optimal building and environmental energy management.
4th class power engineer or equivalent education and experience

Duties
- Maintaining, inspecting, repairing and monitoring equipment and systems like exhaust fans, emergency generators, heat exchangers, and tube systems
- Testing and chemically treating the R.O. (reverse osmosis) system, water softeners, air washers, cooling towers, hydronic systems, and the medical vacuum tank
- Monitor security and emergency systems including fire and safety alarms, troubleshoot and take actions to resolve system issues

- Keep facilities safe, pleasant, and comfortable for patients, families, visitors, staff, physicians, and volunteers
- Ensure the internal air quality is safe for everyone in our facilities
- Ensure the water systems are safe for all to use
- Improve the patient experience by maintaining security or nurse call systems, as well as environment and temperature controls
- Collaborate with other power plant operators, power engineers, facilities maintenance and engineering, and other support staff
- Work in a variety of facilities including hospitals and medical centres
